(* Note, there is a discrepancy in his date of death.  Family tree records and the WPA records show a year of death of 1939.  However, the Pension record index clearly shows that Juliette Stone Bender filed for a widow's pension on Sept. 23, 1929 -  I checked the 1930 Census Records: In Fayette County Juliette Bender, age 79, was listed as a widow)

(Oct. 2, 1802 - June 25, 1864 OR July 4, 1864) (note the discrepancy in the date of death.  The June 25, 1864 matches the Roll of Honor information.  Also see Jacob Neilson with almost identical dates.  It makes me wonder whether there was some connection between these two men's date of death - ejj)

Note: there is a date of death discrepancy that I am trying to get resolved.  The pension index says his widow Harriet H. Goslin filed for a pension on Dec 2, 1914.  It looks pretty clear.  So I am questioning the date that I found on Find a Grave.- but I could also be misinterpreting the 1914 date on the index.

*Osage City Cemetery Records say Rice.  However, I (ejj) also found this information:  "In the Bice family history (book) it says that Leander was a a native of New York.  It also says that he and Sarah moved to Mitchell Co, Iowa and appear to be on the Federal Census in 1880, 1900, and 1910. In 1910 Leander is not listed so it is believed that he died between 1900-1910.
There's limited information on this family but it is said that the only two children (George W. and Joseph F.) never married."

Note: both  Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and  Clayton County Cemetery Records say he is buried at Monona City Cemetery, Clayton County, Iowa.  This photo is at Corinth National Cemetery.  If there is tombstone at Monona City Cemetery, then one of them is like a memorial stone.

NOTE: Iowa Civil War Soldier Burial Records has him listed as buried in Plainfield, Bremer County, Iowa.  WPA Records show him buried in Willow Lawn Cemetery, Polk Twp., Bremer County, Iowa with notes:  "Civil War Vet C. E 27th IA Inf."  But there is a note attached to the record from Mike Peterson that states: Freedom Jones who was a Civil War Vet in Co. E 27th IA Inf; b. in Chautauqua Co, NY 7 Apr 1822 and died in Guthrie, Logan County, OK on 20 Feb 1899 is buried in Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie - not here. I have pictures of headstones. Don't know why he is listed here although he lived here at one time. Another Freedom buried Giard Cemetery, Farmersburg, Clayton Co but unlikely both in same CW Co

The Delaware County, Iowa Cemetery Directory says he is buried in Silver Creek Cemetery, Adams Township, Delaware County, Iowa.  I am trying to resolve the discrepancy.

Note there is another James McClintock listed as being buried at Rossville Cemetery with a date of death of July 25, 1865.  He is identified as being with the 27th.  However, pension and census records prove that the James McClintock that died in 1925, is the one that served with the 27th.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War has both cemeteries listed  (NOTE:  The photo is from the cemetery in LaCrosse, WI.  The second one could be an error OR a clue, so I will include it.)

Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War has the cemetery as Farmersburg Cemetery, Farmersburg, Clayton County, Iowa

(NOTE:  The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War have a date of death of Nov. 13, 1897.  The Hall County, Nebraska website has a date of Jan 1, 1897.  His Widow Scharlotte (Charlotte) filed for a pension on December 16, 1897, so either of the dates could be correct.  I have no way of determining which one is right.

He was on the Iowa State census on Jan. 1, 1925.  His widow filed  for a pension on Dec. 30, 1925.
