Information researched by Elaine Johnson using information found on the internet at Ancestry.com and other sources.  I don't have any personal knowledge of this soldier.  I just randomly picked his name from the roster and started researching to see what I could find on him.

Name: James Wesley Blacker
Birth:
Oct. 12, 1820 in Ross County, Ohio
Death:
Feb. 25, 1895 in Brown Creek Twp. Jewell County, Kansas

Father: Luke Blacker b: ABT. 1788 in Winchester (Frederick) Virginia
Mother: Rebecca Albin b: ABT. 1788 in Winchester (Frederick) Virginia

Marriage 1: Nancy Mariah Archer b: August 28, 1830; died 1882.  (per queries on the Archer GenForum)

Married: 19 NOV 1848

Marriage 2: Frances Jane (Fanny) Coyner b: 1831 in Ohio; d. Jan. 23, 1913 in Covina, Los Angeles, California

Note:  Frances J. Coyner was first married to Augustine Blacker (brother of James Wesley Blacker).  Augustine served as a Sgt. with Company H 125th Illinois Union Army.  He was killed Sept. 1, 1864 in the battle of Jonesboro, Clayton, Georgia.  He is buried at Marietta National Cemetery, Section K Site 3283,  Marietta Georgia.  Augustine Blacker and Frances J. Coyner had several children:  James Wesley, Henry, born 1847; Eliza Jane, born 1848; Jacob, born Feb. 29, 1852;  William Martin, born Nov. 20, 1858;  Frank Augustus, born Nov. 12, 1860;  Francis M. (Netty), born Feb. 18, 1863

After Augustine died, she was married to a William Brown for 6 years.   Divorced him, and married James Wesley Blacker, who was Augustine's brother. They had no children together.  She filed for a widow's pension after James Wesley Blacker died.

Children of James Wesley Blacker and Nancy Mariah Archer:

Dewitt C. Blacker, born about 1850 in Iowa
Emaline Blacker, born about 1852 in Iowa
Lauraben Blacker, born about 1856 in Iowa (this name was not clear on the census)
Nancy J. Blacker, born about 1858 in Iowa
Mary E. Blacker, born about 1860 in Iowa
Louisie Blacker, born about 1864 in Iowa
James Grant Blacker (Twin), born Sept. 15, 1864 in Iowa
Joseph Sherman Blacker (Twin) born Sept. 15, 1864 in Iowa
George Blacker, born about 1870 in Iowa
Lilly Blacker, born about 1872, in Iowa

I found something interesting about this family as I was researching it.  On Ancestry.com there were 16 individual family trees for  James Wesley Blacker.  I did note that some would list Nancy and some would list Frances.  It seems pretty clear to me from Census records that he was married for a long time to Nancy and she is the mother of the children.   However only one family tree listed any of their children, and it was only a partial list of 5 name.  So the children on this list are the ones that I found on the Census records.

I did find a response to a query that provides a piece of information on the twins James Grant Blacker and Joseph Sherman Blacker:

The Blacker twins are real. James Grant and Joseph Sherman, born Sept. 15, 1864 are the sons of union veteran James W. Blacker (hence the middle names) and wife Nancy M. Archer. I don't know what became of James G. Blacker, but his brother lived in Jewell Co. Ks. and died May 19, 1895. He is buried in a cemetery in Jewell City, Kansas. Hope this helps you in some way.

I also found another query that showed some marriage information on two of the girls:

Searching for ANY information on all BLACKER and TOPLIFF surnames. Both extended families and long term Jewell Co. residents from 1874 to present. Also searching for GEORGE W. SNIDER m LILLY M. BLACKER 25-OCT-1888. Lilly died 3 yrs later. Also searching for George FRANK APPLEBEE m MARY ELLEN BLACKER 16-Jun-1877 and any family.

Nancie Blacker, age 20, female, born Ills.
Dewitt C. Blacker, age 5/12, male, born Iowa

John Archer, age 55, male, born Ohio. *

I found a query on the Archer GenForum that indicates that Nancy is the daughter of John.  So this is probably her father living with them.

Query:  Nancy Mariah Archer(1830-1882) is one of my forebears. I have her down as a dau. of John A.(1795- ? ) and wife of James Wesley Blacker (1829-1895) of Ross Co. Iowa. Let's dig up some ancestors together.
