Came to Iowa in 1865 per Entler Scrapbook obit. According to gravestone and 1 obit. - died 1/31/1904???. Entler Scrapbook obit. and Rockefeller Genealogy state 1/30/1905. Bought farm in Vernon Tp. from his cousin George Ellis in November 1867 (or 1864?) for $7,000. DeWitt sold the same property to his brothers William and Stephen W. for $6,500 in Octobber 1877 but apparently continued to live on the property until moving to near Bonaparte about 1890. The brothers sold the property to Albert Hales for $2,500 in 1889.

Death notice in Birmingham, IA Enterprise newspaper, Nov. 25, 1886 .. "Joseph Johnson, living four miles northwest of Farmington died Sunday, Nov. 13th, of a causcerous affection of the side, aged 54 years."

Johnson P Lindsay was a twin born to Samuel D. Lindsay and wife Margaret Dilbone. During his last days the oldest daughter, Addie Mae, cared for J.P. and he died while Sarah Belle was visiting her daughter Dessie in Wichita. He was a farmer.
Johnston P. Lindsay married Sallie Falkenbarger/Fulkenbarger, on 10 Dec. 1878 by Rev. J.A. Deckard of Piqua. Record can be found in Book 6, page 224 at the Shelby Co. Courthouse.
The 1880 Soundex shows Johnson Lindsay, age 29, with wife Sarah (Sallie?) age 21 and son Earl, age 4/12, and brother Samuel, age 25, in the household in Leadville, CO where Johnson was a miner and Samuel a carpenter. An April 1883 letter written by Samuel to his sister Eliza Jane Frazier tells that Johnson's wife Sally died the previous day, Apr 11, 1883.
