John Lindsey was said to be a Col. during the Revolutionary War. It is believed that he traveled with the Calhoun party including the Wilson and Dugan families from Pennsylvania to South Carolina with a stay of almost a year in Virginia from 1750 to 1756. Col. John Lindsey assisted in establishing American Independence while in the South Carolina Militia and as a member of the Provincial Congress. According to Charles E. Lindsay, Troy, OH, Col. John supposedly lost a hand fighting in the War, was fitted with a silver cap, and was thereafter referred to as "Old Silver Fist".
