From the Indiana Progress January 1911:spouse: McGaughey, Maria Louise (1839 - 1923)Samuel Royer Fisher, one of the prominent residents of the county, died at his home on South Mahoning township on Saturday morning, at the age of 79 years. Death was due to pleurisy, which developed two weeks ago. Mr. Fisher was born near Irwin,
Westmoreland County, February 15, 1832. His mother died when he was a youth and he came to this county to reside with an uncle living in the Mahonings. He was an industrious young man and became an efficient farmer. More than 53 years ago he bought
the farm on which he died and established the Fisher homestead. On March 1, 1849, he was united in marriage to Miss Marie L. McGaughey, one of the esteemed young women of that section, and for nearly 52 years they walked side by side through life.
Mrs Fisher is still living an enjoys good health. The husband and wife were devoted members of the Mahoning Baptist Church for more than half a century, Mr. Fisher being prominent in the work of the congregation. He was a soldier of the Civil war and
served throughout the conflict as a member of Co. A, 206th regiment.
Mr. Fisher was a lifelong Republican and an influential citizen. While he never aspired to a county position he held various township offices. He was a friend of education and was a member of the school board in his district for many years. His
widow and these children survive him: John S. Fisher, of Indiana; J. A. and Charles P. Fisher, of Ridgeway; Dr. James G. Fisher, of Rossiter; Mrs. Samuel Buchanan, of Johnstown; Miles and Mollie at home. Funeral services were conducted at the
Fisher homestead on Monday morning by the pastor of the Mahoning Baptist Church and internment was made in the Baptist burial grounds at Plumville.More About Samuel Royer Fisher:
