Called To Her Reward
Saturday night, January 27th, at the home of her son, Roy, occurred the death of Mrs. Rebecka Jane DeHart. Mrs. DeHart had not been ill, but died of ripe old age and quietly and peacefully departed this life. Only a few days before she had celebrated her eighty-third birthday, and the large number of friends who gathered for the occasion was a beautiful tribute to the honor and esteem in which she was held. To her sons and daughters she was a kind and loving mother, to scores of friends she was “Grandma DeHart” and what word is more expressive of love and esteem than “Grandma”.
Rebecka Jane Haas was born in Pennsylvania January 21, 1840, and was married October 21, 1860, to Wm. DeHart at Shelbyville, Ind., where they lived for five years, and then moved to Illinois. They came to the Starkweather territory in 1900, and so were numbered with the pioneers. Mr. DeHart died December 12th, 1906 and since that time Mrs. DeHart has resided with her son, Roy, who has a splendid farm home two miles north of town. She is survived by three sons: L.B. DeHart who lives in California, A.P. DeHart of Illinois, J.L. DeHart of Starkweather, and two daughters, Mrs. Mildred F. Downer of California, and Mrs. C. A. Fisk who lives in Illinois.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thos. A. Simpson, in the Community church, Monday afternoon, and was largely attended.
