DEHART, Andrew J. - Retired Business Man And Former Public Official Well-Known Throughout Carolina
Death claimed Andrew J. DeHart, 72, well known retired business man and former public official, at his home here Monday night at 8:35 o'clock following a heart attack. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Clyde O. Newell, pastor, assisted by Rev Norman Nations, officiated. Burial was in the DeHart cemetery.
The body was taken to the church at 1 o'clock where it remained until the hour of the funeral service.
Active pallbearers were Dr. Kelly Bennett, Albert H. Myers, J. Robert Long, Frank Hyatt, Burgin Ashe and G. B. Almond.
Mr. DeHart, a native if Swain county, had been in ill health for several months and his death was not unexpected by the members of his family. He retired from active business several years ago, having sold much of his holdings, including a river farm in Clay county. He was a former member if the State Legislature from Swain, postmaster of the Bryson City office for almost 12 years, at one time member of the town council, and was interested in all public affairs of his county and state.
Surviving are the widow, the former, Miss Mary Evertt, of Maryville, Tenn.; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Womack, Mrs. Emma Hyatt, and Mrs. Hattie Rogers, of Bryson City, and Mrs Addie Noland, of Waynesboro, Va., and one brother, Robert DeHart, of Bryson City.
