| Eva found in 1880 census: Tippecanoe Township Pg 2 Dw 16 Fam 16 Swihart, Samuel Age 62 b PA Swihart, Fanny age 61 PA Swihart, Ellan age 26 Rolston, Eva age 9 IN Rolston, Ray age 7 IN Eva and Jesse's Marriage Application lists Eva's parents as: Lewis Rolston and Rachel VanFossen Kosciusko Co Marriage Book D:213 Ralston Lewis to Rachel Vanferson 4 Jul 1869 G.W. Cripe Min. In 1870 Census, Lewis and Rachel are listed with Eva's oldest sister Edith. Oral History of Ivan Hamman, recorded by his son Bruce prior to Ivan's death relates: Grandfather Rolston sired 8 children by two wives. Wife number one gave birth to Roy, Ray, Edy and Eva. I think Roy was a suicide. Ray pave the war for my dad to work in the sawmill in Jones, MI. Ray was married six times to five different women. Eva was my dad's mother and Aunt Edy was a lady I enjoyed visiting as a child because she saved comic pages for me to read. My dad's mother, Eva, was reared by sisters named Swihart and Burket after the death of her own mother. Edy had two children and claimed a third who was probably a child born to her daughter Nellie. Edy's first husband, Bill Southerland, spend 20 years in prison for murdering a man, also. He second husband was named Redmond. With his second wife Granfather Rolston sired Ida, Ace, Jud and Ira. He worked in a livery stable in Warsaw, and my dad only remembers him visiting once. From the clues in this narative, I was able to find Lewis Rolston in the 1900 Census, back to his marriage to Rachel Vanferson. Funeral Record notes age at death of 49-7-241, which would place birth date at 31 Oct 1871 | ||||||||||||||||||
