Heron Lake, near Kuhn Lake in the Barbee Lake chain of lakes in Kosciusko County, Indiana, USA has been though to be named for the bird, but actually was named for this family.

John was a carpenter by trade, and both Elizabeth and John were German Baptist Brethren, or Dunkers.¹⁵
