| "WENT OFF TOGETHER...Society at Kuhn's Landing Shocked by an Unexpected Elopment. During the summer just passed Kuhn's landing has been the scene of several exciting episodes, but the elopement of Chas. Kendal and Anna B. Hamman, the divorced wife of Matt Weaver, has more completely disturbed the equilibrium of that neighborhood than any other one thing that ever occurred there. To say that the best society in the whole lake region is all agog over the sensational affair is putting it mildly. John Kuhn was in this office the other day and gave us the particulars of the affair. He said that Kendall had been paying marked attention to the fair daughter of Elias Hamman for some time and that the old gentleman did not seem to be greatly perturbed over the relations that existed between the young folds. It seemed that they had perfectly smooth sailing, and no reason can be assigned for their elopement. It has been about two weeks since the young couple left the neighborhood, but the matter was kept quiet by those on the inside in order that society might not be completely upset over the affair. Albert Kuhn drove the couple to Warsaw, about two weeks ago, where they took the train, ostensibly for Chicago, but their exact destination is yet unknown."21 | ||||||||||||
