WORDS IN RED WERE ORIGINALLY UNDERLINED. THIS HAS BEEN CHANGED IN ORDER TO NOT MISTAKE THEM AS LINKS.
[Transcriber's note: This is direct line for the transcriber. I have made many contacts with other descendants of James and have sorted out much information. There will be corrections made to this line's information that should be available through clicking on a link near where that person's descendants are. I'll try to make them obvious. Please check these as there are a few errors that we've spotted. In her beginning message Ruth Turner Ziegel pointed out she welcomed additions and corrections. I feel it is in keeping with her desires to make these available, although I will not put it in her original work. Addendum for Additions, Corrections & Changes-James Christy, Sr.]
James Christy was born in Culpeper County Virginia in 1766. In 1778 he moved with his parents to Greenbrier County Virginia[.] He married Elizabeth Armstrong on the 10th. of March 1787. Elizabeth Armstrong was a daughter of Robert and Jane Loudon Armstrong. Elizabeth's father was born in Scotland in 1724[,] a son of Robert and Lydia Armstrong. Her mother was born in Ireland. The Armst[r]ongs and Loudens were early immigrants to Virginia. Robert Armstrong was a veteran of the Revolution and received land grants in Greenbrier County for his service. In 1793 the Armstrongs sold their Virginia lands and migrated to Mason County Kentucky. James and Elizabeth Armstrong Christy followed soon after with their young family. (Armstrong information : The Kentucky Genealogist, Vol. 9, pg. 153-54.)
Robert Armstrong died in 1811. His will (Fleming County Kentucky, Will Book A, page 180.). names his wife Jane and his sons; Robert, Joh, william and James L. and his daughters: Elizabeth Christy (wife of James Christy), Lydia Bowen (wife of William Bowen), Nancy Belt (wife of John C. Belt), Polly Summers (wife of Lewis Summers), and Granddaughter; Jenny Northcutt, daughter of Benjamin Northcutt and late daughter Jane Northcutt, deceased. The following FLEMING COUNTY DEEDS list JAMES CHRISTY as Grantee:

29 397 17 My. 1847 894 Fox CreekThe first deed listed, dated April 1799, James Christy has purchased his first Fleming County land.
Deed Book B, page 94, April 24, 1804, William Pennebaker of Bullitt county Kentucky appointed James Christy his attorney, empowering him to transact all business in respect to land claims in Fleming county.
Deed Book B, page 31, 17 April 1806. Adam Shepherd of Butler County kentucky appointed James Christy his attorney, empowering him to transact all business in respect to land claims in Fleming County.
6th. June 1817 William Pennebaker annuled [sic] Power of Attorney of James Christy "now of Morgan County Kentucky."
The final two deeds, disposing of property in Fleming County, are of interest because they both give his name as James Christy, Sr. and are witnessed by James Christy, Jr. thus we know that James was still alive in 1847. The 1847 deed describes James, Sr. as of Morgan County. [transcriber & webmaster's question: Does anyone know when James Christy, Sr. actually died?]
James Christy Sr. seems to have spent time in both counties. His children are also found in both counties. There are no records of deeds in Morgan County for James Sr. He is in Fleming County in the 1810 Federal Census, cannot be found in the 1829 census, in Morgan County in the 1830 census and in 1840 he and Elizabeth are probably the male 70 to 80 and female 60 to 70, listed in the home of John A. Christy in Morgan county. The letter he wrote from Poplar Plains in 1844 places him in Fleming county at that particular date. However, Elizabeth had died the previous year and several of his children lived in the area, and he still owned property there, so he may have ben visiting or even living with them.
The migration of the children and grandchildren to Illinois, Iowa, and Mainly, Missouri, begins about 1850 and by 1860 is almost complete.
JOSEPH K. CHRISTY (JAMES, JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
Addendum for Additions, Corrections & Changes- Joseph K. Christy
Joseph was born in Greenbrier County Virginia in 1788 and moved to Kentucky with his parents. BORN 9th. APRIL, 1790"Joseph and Ann are in the 1850 Federal Census in Morgan County Kentucky. Evidently Joseph joined his sons in the move to Linn County Missouri. His tombstone is found there in the Wesley Chapel cemetery:
JOSEPH K. CHRISTYThere is no tombstone for Ann. she may have died in Morgan County after the 1850 census.
Sept. 28, 1853, aged 66 years. There is difficulty in distinguishing between children of Joseph K. Christy and of James Christy Sr. However, in some instances primary data helps.
The following are children of Joseph K. Christy.
PHILIP W. CHRISTY (JOSEPH K., JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
Philip W. Christy was born 10th. June 1815 to Joseph and Elizabeth Weaver Christy. Philip married Frances Saunders the 17th. of August 1836. Their children were: JOSEPH, born 1843; TAYLOR, born 1845, SCOTT, born 1847, NANCY, born 1855 and HENRY, born 1859. Philip and Nancy Day Christy moved to Linn County Missouri in 1853. JANE CHRISTY (JAMES, JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
Jane Christy, named for her Grandmother Jane Louden Armstrong, married 11 th of September 1806, James Penland[.] They were married in Fleming County by Benjamin Northcutt. The 1850 census gives Jane's' age as 48 and the 1860 census gives her age as 56. James' age is equally off. In 1860 it is given as 52. The 1860 census states that Jane is blind.
LYDIA CHRISTY (JAMES, JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
Addendum for Additions, Corrections & Changes- Lydia Christy
Lydia Christy was born in Fleming County Kentucky C. 1792. [Transcriber's note: I have been informed by Lydia's descendants that Fleming County wasn't created yet when she was born. They granted William Christy Power of Attorney to sell their Morgan County kentucky property (Morgan County, Deed Book K, page 462.) in 1848 they moved south to Clark County Missouri. James died the 21st. of January 1878. Hannah died at the age of 100 on 5th. January 1904. They are buried in Peaksville cemetery, Sweet Home Township, Clark County Missouri.

ROBERT A. CHRISTY (JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
Robert was married the 28th. of September 1819 in Fleming County to Susan Seamonds. I believe he died prior to 1830 and that Susan married second, 31 march 1830, James Gorrell. I believe Susan and Robert had three sons and 1 daughter. The 1830 census of Fleming county lists her as 30 to 40 years and another female 10 to 15 years. Also listed are two males less than five years and one male 5 to 10 years. A third male 20 to 30 is too old to be her child, possibly a brother?

Robert, Jr. was born in 1827 in Fleming County. He married Amanda Newman, in Fleming County, 31st. January 1845. AMBROSE B. CHRISTY (ROBERT SR., JAMES SR., JULIUS,SAMUEL(?))
Ambrose B. Christy was born in 1825, in Fleming County. He married Eliza Jane Logan the 9th. March 1847. They had the following known children; ELIZABETH, born 1848; WILLIAM A. , born 1849; JOHN M., born 1851, and LOU ELLEN, 1852. The HISTORY OF BATES COUNTY MISSOURI" gives us added detail. Ambrose and Eliza and their four children moved to Missouri in 1865 and Ambrose died there in 1877.
John M. Christy graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1877 and the New York Homeopathic Medical College in 1882. He married, in 1876, T. Fanny Ellis, daughter of James Ellis of Warrensburg, Missouri. They had one daughter, Stella.

William Christy was born in Fleming County in 1806. He married Mary "Polly" Royce on the 11 June 1824. The bond states that Polly's father was "John Buress, deceased." This indicates that Polly was a widow.
William and Mary had the following known children:
HANNAH CHRISTY (WILLIAM, JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))William and Mary also had the following daughters: MARY JANE, LAVENA, LUCY ANN, LOUISA AND ARMENIA [sic should be America. More information on the girls can be found in the addendum on this family.]
Hannah was born in 1832.JOHN J. CHRISTY (WILLIAM, JAMES, SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
[Transcriber's note: This is in error and understandably confusing. John J. belongs in the family of James Christy, Jr. who lived in the same county as William, his brother. William has a son named John S. Christy. The two Johns are born 3 years apart. Please see my addendum information on the families of James Christy, Sr.]John J. Christy was born in 1834. He lived in Sweet Home Township, Clark County Missouri in 1860. His wife was named Electra [sic should be Electa] and they had a daughter DICY, born 1857 and a son JACOB born 1859. NO PROOF OF THIS RELATIONSHIP
LOUDON M. CHRISTY (WILLIAM, JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
Loudon was born in Fleming County in 1835. In 1860 he is living in Sweet Home Township, clark County Missouri. He married SARAH A. _________, and had two children; JOHN W., born 1859 and GEORGE W., born 1860. Loudon died the 4 January 1865, his tombstone in the Peaksville cemetery reads:
MOSES M. CHRISTY (WILLIAM, JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))LOUDON M. CHRISTY, SON OF W. + M.
"OUR SWEET BOY DIED FOR HIS COUNTRY"Moses was born in 1837. He also is living in Sweet Home Township, Clark Co. Missouri in 1860. His wife is named Mary J. and they had two daughters: ELIZA born 1857 and LUCY J., born 1859.
William and Mary must have had other children born after their marriage in 1824 and before Hannah's birth in 1832.
JOHN A. CHRISTY (JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
John A. Christy, born in 1813 and married, in Fleming County, on the 5th. January 1834 Nancy Royce. (Rice on license). John and Nancy are living in Illinois by 1851 and in Allen County Kansas by 1860.
John A. and Nancy Royce (Rice) Christy had the following known children:
JOANN CHRISTY (JOHN A., JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))I have some concern about listing John A. as a son of James Sr. and Elizabeth knowing that it is possible that he is a son of Joseph K. Christy.
born 1838.JAMES L. CHRISTY (JOHN A., JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
born 1841 in Fleming County Kentucky. He moved with his parents to Illinois and then to Kansas.ELIZABETH CHRISTY (JOHN A., JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
born 1842, in Fleming County Kentucky, moved to Illinois and then to Kansas with her parents.JOHN F. CHRISTY (JOHN A., JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
born 1843, in Fleming County Kentucky, moved to Illinois and then to Kansas with his parents.WILLIAM V. CHRISTY (JOHN A., JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
born 1846, in Fleming County Kentucky, moved to Illinois and then to Kansas with his parents.GEORGE W. CHRISTY (JOHN A., JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
born 1849, in Fleming County Kentucky. He too moved with his parents to Illinois and then to Kansas. He died in Kansas in 1880. (On 1880 Mortality Schedule for Kansas.)MARION F. CHRISTY (JOHN A., JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
born 1851 in Illinois, and went to Kansas with his parents about 1856.MARY CHRISTY (JOHN A., JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
born 1853 in Illinois, and went to Kansas with his parents about 1856.NANCY CHRISTY (JOHN A., JAMES SR., JULIUS, SAMUEL (?))
born 1855 in Illinois, and went to Kansas with his parents about 1856.There are other Fleming County Christys that I have not been able to assign but I do know that they are of James and Elizabeth's family, either as their children or as grandchildren.
This is a list and relevant data about these persons:
ELIZABETH CHRISTY. She married Isaac Simmons in Fleming County on the 4th of October 1830.
WILLIAM A. CHRISTY. He married Celia Ann Oxley in Fleming County in 1846.
JULIUS CHRISTY This Julius married Mary A. McRoberts in Fleming County on 25 December 1847. I think he is a son of Julius Christy, son of James, but no proof.
ELIZA J. CHRISTY She married Tobias Logan in 1843. She may be a daughter of Robert A. Christy, Sr. but no proof.
