Antone (Ariton, Anthony) VAN LANEN was born in Boekel, Noord Brabant, Holland in 1823. He was the fourth child born to Gerardus VAN LANEN and Johanna VAN DER HEIJDEN. Comming of age, he probably spent his time helping his parents farm their plot of land in Boekel. In 1849 he and his family immigrated to Brown County, Wisconsin.
Johanna (Anna) DIRICKS was born in Holland in 1823.
Antone married Johanna Diricks prior to 1859 (probably in Wisconsin) when their first child was born. Togerther they had three children as listed below:
- Arnold born in the town of Scott in 1859, he married Nellie ? and they had nine children.
- Anton born in the town of Scott, 1869, and
- Bernard, born 1870 in the town of Scott.
The 1860 census lists the family as follows:
- Ariton Van Lanen, age 37, farmer, born in Holland, Land = $100.00, Personal Property = $25.00
- Johanna, age 37, wife, born in Holland
- Arnold, age 5/12, born in WI.
The 1880 census describes the family as:
- Ariton Van Lanen, age 56, farmer, born in Holland
- Arnold, age 20, born in WI
- Anton, age 11, born in WI, and
- Bernard, age 10, born in WI.
Thus we assume that Johanna died sometime prior to 1880.
Ariton Van Lanen died on August 14th, 1898, and was buried in Bay
Settlement Cemetery.

The VAN LANEN surname originates in the towns of Boekel and
Uden, Noord Brabant, Holland and means "from the
lanes". The earliest Van Lanen identified to date is Peter VAN LAANEN who was
married to Wilhelmina VAN DEN
ANKER. This couple had at least one son Gerardus VAN LANEN (1788 -
<1870) who married Johanna
Adriaan Giele VAN DER HEIJDEN (1790 - <1870).
Gerardus and Johanna had seven children (Gerardus Van Lanen Family
History). Their fourth child was Ariton (Antone, Anthony) VAN
LANEN who married Johanna
(Anna) DIRICKS. This family is described above.
VAN DER HEIJDEN Ancestry
The VAN DER HEIJDEN surname originates in Holland, and is the
subject of on-going research. At present the oldest known Vander
Heijden is Adriaan VANDER HEIJDEN (?) who married Anna Maria
PETERS (?). They had at least one daughter Johanna Adriaan Giele VAN DER
HEIJDEN (1790 - <1870) who married Gerardus VAN LANEN (1788 -
<1870). Gerardus and Johanna had seven children (Gerardus Van Lanen Family
History). Their ?son was ? married ?. this couple is
described above.
