[453] Michael G. Balza, 31 Route 2, Luxemburg, died unexpectedly Thursday at home. He was born May 15, 1854 in the town of Luxemburg to Mrs. Clarissa (Arendt) Balza and the late William Balza.
[454] He operated a farm in Luxembeurg, and was also employed by Norbert Rueckl Construction Comapny, Luxemburg. He also worked as a mechanic. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Church, and a member of the Kewaunee County Pork Producers.
[455] Mr. Balza is survived by his mother; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edmund and Janet; Ray and Linda, all of Luxemburg; and nieces and nephews.
[456] Friends may call at the McMahon Funeral Home of Luxemburg from 2 to 9 p.m., today. Holy Name Society rosary 7:30 P.m., tonight. Wake service 8 P.m., tonight. Funeral 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Mary's Church, Luxemburg. The Rev. Milton Suess officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.

Seattle Public Library Call # R929.272 SW52D v.2 Peter Van Lanen is listed as immigrating in 1848, aboard the ship the Eliza Denison, occupation farmer, male, 33 years of age, arriving in New York from Rotterdam, Holland on October 29th, 1849. He is accompanied by wife (Willemina) Harmina age 33, and son Cornelis age 1.

[354] Peter was born in the south western region of Holland, in the town of Boekel in Noord Brabant Province, on March 12th, 1817.

[356] FAMILY HISTORY:
[357] In October of 1849, Peter and family (wife Hermina, and a 4 month old son, Cornelius) arrived in the port of New York, NY, USA.
[358] Peter filed a letter of intent to become a citizen of the United States with the Brown County Clerk on the 20th of May 1852.
[359] The 1860 Census records show that at the time the family was composed of Peter, Wilhemina, Cornilius (Nellis), age 11, Mary age 10, Gerhardus age 9, Godfrey age 8, Adrian age 3, and John age 1.
[360] Cornilius was born either just prior to the families departure, his place of birth is listed as Holland in the 1860 Census.
[361] Peter's occupation is listed as a farmer with land holdings worth $300 and personal property of $100. Wilhemina is listed as 41 years of age. The children Godfrey and John were listed as farmers in the 1880 Census. Wilhemina died in 1872, but no definite date for her death has been determined. The 1880 Census shows Peter living with his daughter Mary and nephew Geradus. Mary remained single, joining the convent at Holy Cross where she taught school and took care of her father until his death on August 14th, 1881.
