[2530] Jacob Johannes Sr. was born in Prussia, Germany March 2, 1848. His parents, Peter Johannes and Maria STREIT Johannes, and two children emigrated to America in 1854. AFter eight weeks at sea they landed in New York. His sister passed away on this voyage and was buried at sea. His parents settled in Union Grove, Racine County, Wisconsin. Jacob received his naturalization papers in 1871. Shortly after that they decided to homestead in Iowa.
[2531] Jacob married Clara Ludwig, daughter of William and Mary (Walters) Ludwig at Brighton, Wisconsin on February 29, 1876. On St. Patrick's Day 1876 they arrived in Ashton, Osceola County, Iowa. They settled on an 80 acre homestead 3 1/2 miles northwest of Ashton, where they made their home for many years. Due to ill health, he moved to an 80 acrte farm on the north edge of Ashton to be nearer to the church and school which all of their cildren attended.
[2532] Jacob and Clara's children were: Mary (Mr. S. May) 1876 - 1971, Peter Jr. 1878 - 1957, Kate (Mrs. Charles Tremmel) 1880 - 1969, Margaret (Mrs. John Strouth) 1883 - 1959, Anna (Mrs. Ben Arning) 1886 --, William 1890 - 1977, Elizabeth (Mrs. Louis Seivert) 1891 --, Helen 1893 --, Nick A. 1896 - 1971, All the family were lifelong members of this community except the youngest son, Nick, who was wounded in action during World War I. After his discharge in 1920 he finiished college and found employment in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was married to Lenore Flynn of ST. Paul in June 1926. They had four sons; James and Robert of St. Paul, Richard of Red Wing and a son David L. who was injured in a car accident and passed away December 29, 1954.
[2533] Jacob died May 21, 1932. Clara died January 26, 1938.
