[780] In 1871, Michael and Helene's son Johann and Nicholas Boor who had married their daughter Eva, decided to homestead in Iowa. Michael, Helene and Anton joined them in 1873.

[783] Translation of a letter from the Buergermeister of Erdorf dated 24 September 1961.
[784] I will be pleased to answer your letter of 21 August. From talks with our vicar, I could learn the following:-
[785] Michael Streit born in Erdorf on 8 May, 1815, son of Peter Streit and Elizabeth Bewinbeid (?) of Erdorf. Peter died 12 November 1845, at the age of 66. [1504] The Lutheran Church record in Velthiem, Germany lists Johann Friedrich Daniel Wesche, born May 20, 1839, baptized June 9, 1839. The parents were Andreas Friedrich Wesche, a farm laborer, and Johanne Lucie Friedrike nee Brandes, age 40 years. This record is in German and was aquired by American relatives in June 1950. The document bears the town seal of Wolfenbuttel.
[1505] Johann Frederick Daniel Wesche immigrated with his parents leaving from Bremen, Germany and landing in the Port of New York on the 23rd of July, 1858 on board the Ship "Louisiana" with 635 passengers aboard. The family is listed on the passenger list of the Louisiana as follows: Andr. Wesche, age 56 Male, Occupation: Farmer, Country to which they severally belong: Braunschweig, Country in which they intend to be inhabitants: Ohio. Lucie Wesche, age 55, Female, Braunschweig, Ohio. Dorothea Wesche, age 28, Female, Braunschweig, Ohio. Hanna Wesche, age 24, Female, Braunschweig, Ohio. Daniel Wesche, age 18 Male, Occupation: Farmer, Braunschweig, Ohio.
[1506] On May 7th, 1869 Daniel married Friederika Martin.
[1507] The 1870 Census records for Ridgeville Township, Henry County, Ohio list D. Wesche as a farmer, age 30. His wife Frederika, age 21, Emma 3/12. Also listed are A. Wesche, L. Wesche and C. Martins, age 7, a male born in Prussia.
[1508] In 1880, the name is spelled Weshe in the census record. Daniel, white, age 41, a farmer was born in Brunswick. Wife Frederika, white female, age 32 was born in Prussia. Her occupation was "Keep-house." The children are listed as Emma 10 (in school), Frederika 9, John 8, Willie 6, Minnie 5, Mary 3, Dora 2, Lucinda 10/12. Also listed are Lucie Weshe, female, age 82, mother, born in Hanover, Hanover. Her occupation is listed as "superannuated."
[1509] The fifteen Wesche children were all born at the family home west of Ridgeville Corners. Nine were born in the log house, and the last six in the frame house that is now on the farm. Twelve of the original fifteen died and were buried in Northwest Ohio. Henry passed away in New York State in 1940, where he had gone to live near his children. Laura is living and resides in Hickory, North Carolina, Augusta is living and makes her home in Defiance, Ohio.
[1510] The sons and daughters of Daniel and Fredicka attended the Public school known as the Dittmer School. It was located 1/2 mile east of the farm home. There was no parochial school at St. John's Lutheran Church, but all attended summer school and received religious instruction in German. The Wesche family had been Lutheran for many generations.
[1511] This was a happy family. Laura says that if they were in poverty, in any way, they never knew it. At least two sisters were married when the mother died, very suddenly in 1894. Child number 16 was to be born soon, but the death record says Fredericka died of La Grippe Older sisters at home took over the household duties. Laura says she was always well dressed and well cared for.
[1512] One granddaughter reports that when the parents went to town, often the children hitched a horse to a wagon and went racing over the farm. Grandmother Lucie not only gave her consent to this forbidden recreation, but went along for the ride. Mary who told this story, was 11 when the grandmother died at age 89.
[1513] There was a surplus of boys on this farm so the younger ones found employment eleswhere until they established their own farm homes.
[1514] Fred went Sherwood to work for his brother-in-law William Schroeder and also spent some time in the Lancing and Grand Ledge area in Michigan. His aunts Henrietta (Mrs. Henry Brandes) and Johanna (Mrs. John Ebel) lived there. He returned to Sherwood to make his permanent home. Both Daniel and Henry worked and lived in his home at one time.
