[629] Loren was born in Green Bay on August 7th, 1926, the son of Frank Henry Scheer and Hildegarde C. Hettmann. He was baptized into the Catholic Church soon after his birth at SS. Peter & Paul. He attended SS. Peter & Paul Catholic School from the 1st through the eighth grade, then attended Green Bay's East High school where he participated in football and track. He graduated in 1944, and went into the Navy on August 3rd, 1944. He went to Great Lakes Naval Station for basic training, then on to Chicago, IL for training. After being discharged from the Navy in 1946, he attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture.
[630] He married Joyce Antoinette Angst on February 4th, 1950 in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The couple's first child Susan was born soon after in Green Bay on December 11th, 1950. Loren took a job with Allen Dairy Products and the family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and then on to Wapakoneta, Ohio, with the Fisher Cheese company, where their son Thomas was born on June 12th, 1952 and their second daughter Judith was born on May 21st, 1954. The family moved one more time, to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to work for the Coules Chemical Company, where their remaining two children were born. Steven on June 16th, 1957, and Kathryn on September 17th, 1964.
[631] While vacationing in New Orleans, in 1971, Loren suffered a heart attack, which he survived, but it slowed him down some. Loren retired in 1985 and died on August 2nd, 1996.
[632] Obituary - Loren Francis Scheer
[633] Loren F. Scheer, 69 of 480 Willsher Dr., died Friday Aug. s, 1996 at homewhile watching the Packer game, his favorite activity.
[634] He was born Aug. 7, 1926, in Green Bay, the son of Frank and Hildegarde Hettmann Scheer. On Feb. 4, 1950, he married Joyce A. Angst, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay.
[635] He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and graduated from UW-Madison in 1950 with a degree in agriculture. He sold cleaning agents to food production companies. He was a lifetime Elks member and was a member of Lodge 57. He belonged to St. Joseph's Church in Fond du Lac. He loved playing cards, bowling and playing golf. His retirement hobby was creating wooden figures with his band saw. Above all he was a Packer fan.
[636] Mr. Scheer is survived by his wife; two sons, Thomas of Whitefish Bay, and Steven and his wife Julie of Missoula, Mont.; three daughters, Susan Wagner and her husband Bruce of Fond du Lac; Judy Cirilli and her husband John of Rhinelander and Kathryn Hopper and her husband Joel of Wilmington, Del.; seven grandchildren, Keely, Eric Wagner, Jamie, Jenie, Christie Cirilli, Brad and Becky Hopper, and one grandchild expected soon.
[637] Preceding him in death were his parents.
[638] Services: A celebration of Mr. Scheer's life will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Walker officiating. Cremation will follow. The Twohig Funeral Home of Fond du Lac is handling the arrangements.
[639] Visitation: From 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
