[2504] Nicholas Wallrich, son of Mathias and Angela Gasper Wallrich was born March 2, 1843 in Trier, Germany. The family came to America and settled in Brighton, Wisconsin. On August 10 1875 Nicholas married Barbara Johannes, born December 13, 1848, of North Vernon, Indiana. The following year they came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Lyon County, later moving east of Ashton where they lived until retiring in Ashton. Being one of the first settlers they experienced all the hardships of pioneer life, fighting cold winters, twisting grass for fuel, grasshoppers destroying their crops and so on.
[2505] Nicholas was a charter member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chruch of Ashton and a Civil War veteran. They had the distinction of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary, and their union was blessed with five childrn: Mathias, Mary (Mrs J. L. Johannes), Nicholas, Etta (Mrs. Peter Johannes) and Magdelena, The couple enjoyed a long life. Nicholas passed away Setember 16 1925 and Barabara September 22, 1942.
