[2536] William (Bill) J. Johannes, son of Jacob and Clara Johannes was born at Ashton, Iowa, on Feb 19 1890. On October 20, 1920 he was united in marriage to Rosemary Opgenorth of Kewaskum, Wisconsin. His wife Rosemary was then Supervisor of Nurses at the Osceola Community Hospital. To this union three daughters were born. Mary Clare SHUPE of Sun City Arizona, Eileen MARTEL of Boston Massachussets and Dorothy of Ashton, Iowa. His wife Rosemary died on Feb 9, 1944 of a lengthy illness.
[2537] Bill attended school at Ashton, Iowa and Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, Minnesota. After graduation he was employed by the C. St. Paul, M&O Railroad and remained in that position until 1914 to enter the employ of the Sibley State Bank, Sibley, Iowa. He joined the Army Air Corps during World War I and after returning home purchased interest in the Ashton State Bank, Ashton, Iowa. Bill was employed by the Ashton State Bank for fifty-two years, retiring as president in 1974. He represented Osceola county as State Representative for ten years and served as a delgate to the Democratic National Convention three times. He was made an honorary member of the Iowa Press Association for his outstanding service for the State of Iowa.
[2538] Bill lived to the age of eighty seven years. He died in May of 1977.
