[1520] Germany was a country of political unrest and Civil Wars in 1858, when Andrew and Lucie Wesche departed for the United States. America was a country that was to provide a better life for all. With Andrew and Lucie were three unmarried daughters, Johanna, Henrietta, and Dorothea, all past 20 years of age. The son Daniel was about 19. Henry had been born and died in 1829.
[1521] In comming to America the family escaped the poverty known to unskilled men who were listed as day laborers. Velthiem is a small village ten miles southeast of Brunswick, Germany. One biographical sketch says they arrived in Pettisville, Ohio in August 1858. Daniel soon went to Richmond, Ohio in Jefferson county and stayed two years. Johanna married John Ebel, Henrietta married Henry Brandes and Dorothea became Mrs. Pete Gang.
[1522] The 1860 Census record for German township, Fulton County, Ohio lists Andreas Wesche as age 65, a day laborer with $50.00 worth of personnal property. His wife Lucie, age 61 and a duaghter, Dorothea, age 30. All are listed as having been born in Germany.
[1523] Daniel returned to northwest Ohio and in 1865 bought a 40 acre farm. This was the start of the Wesche homestead we know today. Other 40 acre plots were added later. Daniel and his parents lived there.
[1524] An index card in the Temple Records at the Genealogical Society in Salt Lake City, lists Andreas Friederich Wesche No. 30401 book 2C, page 1092, birth listed June 6, 1791, at Kneitlingen, Brunswick, Germany. He was baptized in the Mormon Church on April 27, 1915. The hier was a great grandnephew, Friederick Wesche.
[1525] Records in Salt Lake tell us that Friederick Wesche of that city sponsored the baptism of Andreas Friederick Wesche in the Church of the Latter Day Saints. The baptism took place on April 27, 1915 some 42 years after Andrew had been buried in the Lutheran Cemetery at St. Johns Church near Ridgeville Corners.
