[406] Alice Lindstrom remembers:
[407] Lucy, the sixth child of the family had scarlet fever when she was very young which left her with a lot of problems. She was a slow learner in school so dropped out at an early age. She did domestic work off and on and stayed at home a good deal of the time. She would rather work in the garden than do housework. Mother always took her into the garden with her which she would rather do than to do the dishes. When it came timeto pick the strawberries in front of the bee hive, then I was elected to do this as I had no fear of the bees and they seem to sense this. Lucy had often put the dirty fry pan up in the warming oven on the stove so she wouldn'y have to wash it, when it was her turn to do the dishes so I would get it when it was my turn. She would start down town to get the mail at the post office at 8:00 a.m. and someone would have to go after her at 11:00 o'clockto get the meat for lunch. She would stop to visit everyone on her way home, such old friends as Maggie Chace. Rose Hearty, etc. She had a very protected life even though she was four years older than I was. Mother always said "comb her hair for her, press her dress, which she had taken off and thrown in a heap on a chair so I got so I put is on the stair railing so I wouldn't have to press it so often." If she had a short temper with mother, she would say you know how she is, so she was always excused for everything. Her feet always hurt her so she got new shoes about every six weeks and I had to wear out the old ones. Those shoes were always nice when the were new so she never did consider a good fit.
[408] Lucy was born October 8, 1901, and married William Prochaska of Coleman, WI., they were married for a few years and divorced while she was pregnant with Dick. There were two sons from this marriage, William Jr. and Dick. William lived in Springfield, MO with his wife Rhodora. They had two girls, Jeanne, married and two girls; and Janet who has one girl named Amber. Richard lives in Nipoma, CA. He has three boys from his first marriage. While he was in the service he married a girl from Texas and had a baby girl. Their marriage didn't last as she had children from a previousmarriage and thet were wards of the State, so when he was sent to the State of Maine in service, they were not allowed to take them, so she returned to Texas and left Dick. Its a sad ending from what I understand, she is now married and has some of Dick's boys who are younger than she is, they are now married too. We have heard from Dick that they are in Killeen, Texas.
