Julia Anna Schwab and Michael John Heilig were married in the Evangelisch Church in Wertheim, Mosbach, Baden, Germany on 1 January 1874. In 1883 permission was granted to Johann Michael Heilig and his family to emigrate from Sonderriet, Wertheim, Baden. They came to the United States on the ship Hohenstauffen which sailed from Bremen and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, on 27 April 1883. They moved first to St. Louis, Missouri, and then East St. Louis, St. Clair County, Illinois, where they lived out their lives. Julia and Michel had seven childrentheir two oldest, Mike and Annie, were born in Germany. It is believed Gus was born in St. Louis and the youngest four children, Charlie, Jule, Lena and Lillie, were born in East St. Louis, Illinois. |
