- Daniel is probably the following man:
- 1780, 20 Jul: Townshend, Windham, VT - Daniel, of Townshend,
husbandman, bought from Benj. HOW, of same, 50 ac of 4th Div.
land [Moses Baker, orig. prop.]. Wit. incl. Hannah Blanchard
[Land loc. in north Townshend nr Jamaica Town line]
[Hannah may be his mother or his wife]
- 1780, Jul: Daniel bought 30 ac of 4th Div. land from Thomas WOOD,
of same; to be laid out ... at sd Blanchard's cost. Wit: Moses
Holbrook, Robert Miller. Both rec 1788. [194c:2:59-60]
- Daniel Blanchard listed as one of the early landowners in
Townshend, VT. [16d:5:537]
- Proprietor records: Daniel held 80 ac in 4th Div. on the N.
line of Townshend [Thos. Amsden survey rec 22 Aug 1781]
[194e:p131]
- 1782, 15 May: Timothy Holbrook, constable, sold part of Daniel's
land to Amariah Taft for non-payment of taxes -- 10 ac from the
west end of Daniel Blanchard's farm "where he now lives".
[194c:1:114,1:204] [same trans. may have been rec. twice]
[Note later sale by Taft to Aaron Blanchard]
- 1789, Apr: Townshend town meeting was called to decide on the
"binding out of JOHN Blancher, son to Daniel Blancher who is
now become a town charge." Said son is bound out to John
Hazeltine for 5 pd 15 sh to be paid in rye or salt. [194d:A:616]
No further mention is made of either Daniel or John in the
town book and it is unclear whether the "town charge" reference
is to the father or the son. Daniel is not referred to as
either "late" or "deceased". No later sale by Daniel noted.
Land may have been sold by the town. [A John Hazeltine was the
original organizer of the Townshend grant.]
- Note: Townshend, VT was first organized by men of the area of
Worcestor & Sutton, MA. Daniel's land was near the line with
Jamaica. A Daniel, c1765/84, is listed in Jamaica in 1810.
- 1797, 31 Jul: Windsor, Windsor, VT - Daniel wit. purchase of
