James Thomas Lennon and Margaret Blaney

Margaret 2 Blaney (James D.1) may have been born in 1832 in Québec, Canada. There is no record of her birth in the records of either St.-Rivière-du-Loup or St.-Giles. She may have been born in St.-Giles before the assignment of a parish priest to that town. It is hard to judge her age since the Blaney women tended to stretch the truth quite a bit when giving their age to census takers. In 1855 she was listed as two years older than her sister Mary Ann; since Mary Ann's birth was recorded in 1834, that would give an estimated year of birth for Margaret of 1832.

In that case, she would have been 23 when she married James Lennon on 20 August 1855 at St. Brigid's Church, the first of the Blaney girls to marry. She died at home on 31 August 1890 in Buffalo of "chronic anterior poliomyletis" and was buried in the Lennon family plot in Holy Cross Cemetery in Lackawanna. Her stone reads: "Mother May her Soul Rest in Peace Amen"

James Thomas Lennon was the son of David Lennon and Anastasia Shalloe and was born in Ireland on 9 August 1837, according to his death certificate. Like his father-in-law, he worked as a carpenter in one of Buffalo's many shipyards. In 1862 the city directory specifically noted that he worked at "Jones' Shipyard." For much of his life, the Lennon family home was located on Hamburgh St. in the 1st Ward. By 1910, however, James had retired and was living with his daughter Frances in one of the uptown wards. The Lennons would appear to have had limited financial means, judging by the rather humble stones in the family plot where James was buried with his wife. He died of "old age" on 11 November 1913 at age 76.

James Lennon and Margaret Blaney had the following children:

13 i. Mary Ann Lennon was born in Buffalo on 7 July 1856.
14 ii. Frances Jane Lennon was born 2 December 1857 and she too was baptized at St. Brigid's Church. She never married, but worked as a schoolteacher for most of her adult life and took care of her father in his old age. She began teaching in 1875 at Public School Number 30. In 1908 she became a bookkeeper. She died of cerebral hemorrhage at Sister's Hospital on 22 February 1918 at the age of 60.
+ 15 iii. Emma Margaret Lennon was born 30 May 1861.
+ 16 iv. Ellen J. Lennon was born February 1864.
17 v. James Joseph Lennon was born circa 1865 and died of spinal meningitis at age 20 on 10 December 1885 in Buffalo. His memorial stone reads "Brother James May His Soul Rest in Peace Amen." The city directory listed him that year as as working as a caulker at the Buffalo City Water Works.
+ 18 vi. Daniel William Lennon was born 29 July 1857.
+ 19 vii. Anastasia G. Lennon was born February 1875
