Richard B.3 McGowan (Elizabeth2 Blaney, James D.1) was born in Buffalo in 1865, according to his tombstone, although no record has been found of his baptism. He followed his father into the grain business, working as a bookkeeper for a variety of employers. In 1884-5 James and Richard had their own business: James S. and Richard B. McGowan, Shipping and Commission Merchants, housed in the Board of Trade Building, but by 1887 the business seems to have folded, since Richard was then working for another employer. He died of "cerebral congestion" on 27 February 1892 at the age of 27 and is buried in the Goetz/McGowan family plot in Holy Cross Cemetery in Lackawanna.
