Joseph Lee Blaney and Lena Weckerly

Joseph Lee3 Blaney (Joseph Daniel2, James D.1) was born November 1889. Like many in the Blaney family, Joseph worked in the insurance business and founded the Joseph L. Blaney Insurance Company. His mother promised at her wedding to raise any children of the union Catholic, but quickly broke that vow and raised her son in the Episcopal Church. Joseph was extensively involved in church affairs, serving as a senior warden and vestryman at the Church of the Ascension in Eggertsville. In 1957 he received the Bishop's Medal for Meritorious Service for his efforts. He was also an active member and leader in several Masonic Lodges. He died 19 November 1969 while vacationing in Phoenix, Maricopa County, AZ and is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

He married Lena Weckerly, born 17 January 1889 in Buffalo, the daugher of John Weckerly and Lena Freeman. The two were wed on 24 January 1912 in Buffalo. Lena died 27 July 1957 in Eggertsville, Erie Co. NY. Her funeral service was held at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, where she was very much involved in the Women's Guild and the Board of Directors. She also served as vice president of the Women's Ausiliary of the Diocese of Western New York.
