My first documented LANE is John, b. 1/17/1791 in MD having no known siblings. He m. 11/02/1821 (license dated 10/15/1821) Warren Co. OH Elizabeth PARROTT, b. 7/19/1801 Talbot Co. MD her line being much better documented.
Lore enters with his undocumented parents James LANE and Anna/Hannah UNKNOWN. One version says that he arrived as ship's crew (probably somewhere between PA & VA inclusive) jumping ship thus leaving NO immigration trail, no clue to his age, marital status or other data. Since that makes him invisible in US records, next step seems to be doing research of British Maritime records. For those who chose to do so, I'd consider sharing expense in some research there. [Considering my current age at 75, that may well be a limited-time offer!]
A less likely version is that he was sent here as a young boy afflicted with a skin disease (thought more curable here than there) accompanied by a Negro Mammy. Again, no dates, locations or other clues.
As appendage, I'll note that John/Elizabeth then went from Warren Co OH to St.Joseph Co. IN in 1835 where they later died & are buried. Thus, unless John had unknown siblings who became part of that huge westward movement of LANEs through KY/TN/..../TX, he most probably was NO part of these branches.
