Notes for JAMES ANDREW BYBEE*:
James Andrew Bybee, was a true second generation Western pioneer. Though he blazed no trails into the west, with his parents and later with his own family he was instrumental in breaking trails within its boundaries.
He was born on 2 July 1865 in a small community on the Weber River a short distance above the present (1990) city of Ogden, Utah. The community was names East Weber and is now known as Uintah.
His father, Robert Lee Bybee, arrived in Utah in 1851 and his mother, Jane Miller Bybee probably in the same year. His father was a native of Indiana and his mother a native of Scotland.
The primitive conditions of the pioneers had improved by the time of his birth but there were still many hardships and inconveniences to be endured.
As soon as his mother was able to travel they moved to Smithfield in Utah's Cache Valley. Four days before his fifth birthday his mother died and he and the other children were raised by a stepmother.
In November 1876 the family moved to Manti, Utah where his father was in the implement business. The venture was not successful and the father went to the upper Snake River valley in Idaho in the early spring of 1883. There he found a piece of property he liked then returned to Manti and prepared to move to Idaho.
The stepmother and younger children.

Notes for OZETTA EASTMAN:
Ozetta Eastman Bybee, daughter of Ozro French and Mary Elizabeth Eastman, was born on July 25, 1870 at Salt Lake City, Utah. As a child she gathered wood scraps for fuel during construction of the Tabernacle. On one occasion she was inadvertantly lock inside the Tabernacle when workman departed for the evening. In 1872-73 the family moved to Franklin, Idaho and about 1885 made their last move to Eagle Rock, now Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her father dismantled their log house and transported it to Idaho Falls where it was reassembled and enlarged. It was located on the river bank at the south end of Capital Street. Here Ozetta married James Andrew Bybee, 3rd son of Robert Lee and Jane Miller Bybee, on July 20, 1892. Four of their children were born in the vicinity, Ozetta at Idaho Falls on October 13, 1894, Lenora and Leah, twin daughters, near Menan, Idaho, on May 4, 1896 (Leah lived about an hour) and Genoris Robert in the Ammon district near Idaho Falls on September 9, 1898.
In 1903 James, a civil engineer, went to the newly opened Twin Falls tract where he did the surveying for most of the laterals of that extensive irrigation project. Ozetta and children followed in 1904 and lived in a tent under primitive conditions until the town of Twin Falls was established. They acquired 40 acres one mile north of the new Twin Falls townsite and there Lee James was born on January 22, 1905. He was originally named Ozro Lee but his name was later changed by his parents. About 1906-07 they built and moved into a larger house in Twin Falls and there Mary Elizabeth was born on October 6, 1908. About 1912 James became County Surveyor which office he held until 1922.
Their daughter Ozetta married Wilmer James Hough at Twin Falls, Idaho, on December 25, 1914 and Jeade D. Hoskins at Elko, Nevada, on September 25, 1946. Lenora married Walter Glen Smith at Twin Falls on April 20, 1920 and Genoris Robert married Iola Jane Leichliter at Pocatello, Idaho, on April 24, 1921. In 1919 the family moved to Filer, Idaho, where Ozetta, the mother , developed crippling arthritis which rendered her bedfast the remainder of her life. In 1922 the family moved to Driggs, Idaho, where James was resident engineer on highway construction for the State of Idaho in whose employ he continued until he retired in 1948. The summer of 1923 they moved to Rexburg, Idaho, and early in 1924 to Boise, Idaho, where James and Ozetta resided the remainder of their lives.
Ozetta died at Boise on February 12, 1932 and was buried in Morris Hill cemetary in that city on February 15, 1932. James died at Boise on October 8, 1952 and was buried beside her on October 11, 1952. Ozetta may have joined the Baptist church in her girlhood. James was born into the L.D.S. Church; but he and his brother Francis apostized about 1885, an act of which he was never proud. Lee James married Ida Kaufman at Rexberg, Idaho, on August 4, 1928. Mary Elizabeth married Roger V. Gull at Boise on February 5, 1929; Howard L. Fosnot on October 3, 1933; Avery R. Kennedy on June 28, 1954; and remarried Kennedy on November 10, 1958. Each marriage terminated in divorce.
