Children of Nicholas Ebeneezer and Lucy
Jane (Shaw) Hammon.
Rissa married George Dallas Henderson
on 15 May 1906, Ripley County, Indiana. They went to Henderson,
Montana, where Dallas worked as a lumberjack in his brother's
camp, and Rissa served as Postmaster. When Dallas' parents died
the following year, they returned to Indiana, and took over the
family farm. Rissa worked as the bookkeeper for the Ripley County
Farm Bureau, which Dallas managed, and later as a teller at the
Osgood bank.
Rufus was kicked in the leg by a horse,
and kept his injury a secret from his parents. Blood poisoning
set in and led to his early death.
Elbridge also went out to Henderson,
Montana, and cooked for the camp. He returned to Indiana as well,
where he farmed, and served as Superintendent of the Ripley County
Schools. He married Erma Pratt, 12 March 1914, in Illinois.
Another son, Merton Alva Hammon, was
born 1882 and died 1884, another victim of an accident involving
a horse. He was with his mother, returning to the family farm
from nearby Versailles, Indiana. As they were pulling into the
lane, the horse was spooked by a snake and bolted, upsetting the
buckboard and crushing Merton.
