Rissa Edith Hammon

Rissa Hammon, daughter of Nicholas Ebeneezer and Lucy Jane (Shaw) Hammon, was born 17 September 1886, Ripley County, Indiana. She died 25 March 1979, Indianapolis, Indiana, just ten days after leaving her home in Yakima, Washington, and entering an Indianapolis nursing home. She said, when she left Yakima, "I'm going home to die," and that is just what she did. Known by all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Mom Henderson, she was possessed of a tough spirit and fierce independence.
