Breeder: Cynthia Cook, Sire: Ch. Carillon Fuzzy Logic, Dam: Ch. Serendipity Your True Choice

 "Powder," owned, trained and loved by Jeri Bernard of Pleasanton, California, was the most titled agility Bedlington Terrier by the age of 3 1/2 years old. Sadly, at the top of her game, Powder was suddenly stricken and diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer. In a cruel twist of fate, this magnificent performer and friend was lost to her family, friends and the breed just before her fourth birthday.

Yet her short career included so many amazing accomplishments. She earned the American Kennel Club Agility titles of MX (Master Excellent) and MXJ (Master Excellent Jumpers).  Not content with the AKC titles, Jeri and Powder also completed in USDAA (United States Dog Agility Association) agility trials and earned the AAD (Advanced Agility Dog) and the RM (Relay Master) titles. Her third venue of competition in agility was NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council), in which she earned titles of O-OJC (Outstanding Open Jumpers Certificate), O-OAC (Outstanding Open Agility Certificate) and OGC (Open Gambles Certificate).  As you can imagine, a dog with all these accomplishments sailed through a temperament test for her TT title.

 In 2001, The American Kennel Club held their National Agility Tournament in Denver, Colorado and Powder qualified to compete because she had earned her MX and MXJ titles. There were 90 dogs entered in her jump class, and Powder finished a very respectable 42nd.

For the 2002 Tournament, to be held in Houston, TX, the AKC reworked the rules and made entry qualifications even more difficult. Our shooting star, Powder, met the challenge, and qualified for entry, and would have represented our breed for the second year in a row. The Bedlington Terrier Club of America awarded Powder a Versatile Dog Award in 2000. Powder also received the AKC Special Award of Merit 2001 for Outstanding Performance in Agility.

Surely, the Dog Star flickered in the heavens when she died.  Thank you, Powder, for shining
so brightly for our breed.

Words of Wisdom

I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives, and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race;
     For if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years,
   What would it be if they were to live double that time?

     --Sir Walter Scott
