The Grey Panther Strikes
Again!! Wins High Honor
On June 16, 2002, Ch. Chelsea's Stolen
Heart Blues, "Nathan," earned a Master Earthdog title.
Nathan is owned and was bred by Linda Freeman, and is co-owned and
trained by Sandy Martin.
Earning a Master Earthdog title was a
very special accomplishment because Nathan was the first Bedlington to
earn this title, proving that our fluffy little Bedlingtons are
actually terriers.
Amazingly, Nathan was almost 12 years old the
day he earned his title, proving that
you can teach an old dog new tricks. Furthermore, Nathan had
finished his Championship with three five-point majors, proving that
show dogs can also be performance dogs!
Linda and Sandy learned a lot about the
Bedlington Terrier training Nathan and watching him work rats.
Most evident was the fact that instinct is not enough. A
dog
must be trainable, willing to learn and work as your partner. A
dog must be intelligent and able to solve problems based on your
training. And lastly, a dog must be healthy, fit and
sound. Sandy plans to continue working Nathan until age finally
retires him from competition. In a world where dogs are bred to
show and dogs are bred for working,
isn't it wonderful to see a dog bred to the standard!
Nathan, shown above being held by his trainer:
Sandy Martin, is the FIRST Master Earth Dog [ME] in the breed to win this honor,
and we are very proud of him. Nathan was eleven [11] years and ten [10] months
old
the day he earned his title on June 16, 2002.
