           PFC Curtis Burchett

Curtis was born in Stambaugh, Johnson Co., KY in 1922 to William Andrew Burchett and Alta Caroline Caudill Burchett.  He was raised on a farm, along with his 10 brothers and sisters.  PFC Curtis Burchett, 16 Inf., 1 Inf. Div. was killed in action on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France, June 6, 1944.  In 1993, his sister, Angeline, travelled to France and discovered his name engraved on a memorial monument, the Big Red One, near Omaha Beach.
