James Emmitt Dearring (1928-1988)
3. James Emmitt2 Dearring (James Michael3, John "Tody" H.4, Arnold5) was born Columbus,
Franklin Co., OH 9 Jun 1928.(1) James died 04
JUL 1988 Columbus, Franklin Co., OH, at 60 years of age.(2)
Jim Dearring was a big man, standing 6'3, with a deep voice. He was a friendly man who enjoyed playing poker, watching football and having
a good time. He never completed high school, but started working at the age of 14. Jim worked at the 7Up Bottling Company in Columbus,
Ohio for 45 years; where his father and grandfather had also worked. When Jimmy was born, his family lived on the east side of
Columbus on Collingwood Ave. Most of his family lived on the near north side of Columbus and it wasn't long until they returned to that
area. When Jimmy was a young man, he and his friends would ride the city bus and have White Castle hamburgers. They took the boxes from
the hamburgers and would line them up in the windows of the bus. He always had a penchant for these hamburgers and would occasionally buy
bags of them to bring home to his family. He and his niece, Kathy, would have a running joke about them. If either of them came to the
other's house, they would always ask where's the White Castle Hamburgers? When Jim married, he and his wife, Angeline lived on
Belmont Ave, close to Ohio State University. After starting their family, they moved to Neil Ave, where they lived for 27 years until the
children were grown. The youngest daughter was in college when Jim and Angie bought a house on Everett Ave, back on the east
side of town. The 7up Company had moved and this would be closer for Jim to drive to work. While living here, he bought his daughter,
Dianne, a dog which she promptly named Skippy. He was a tan color and looked like peanut butter! Soon, it was obvious that Skippy was
really Jim's dog. Jim always made sure Skippy had fresh water to drink. Every night, when Jimmy came home from work, he would pet Skippy
before doing anything else. Jim and Angie lived there until his death. He was diagnosed with cancer in March of 1988 and he
died at home on 4 Jul 1988. He was buried with a white castle box brought to him by his niece, Kathy.
