<>10 July 1897, Midland Tribune
It is with feelings of sincere regret I have to announce the death of one of the oldest and most respectable inhabitants of Clonlyon, in the person of Mr. Patrick Claffey. Deceased, who was in his 88th year, had been ailing for some time, and though the end was unexpected it came as a shock even to his immediate neighbours to learn on the 3rd inst., that he had passed away. Father O'Reilly, C.C., Clonfanlough, unwearying in his attentions all through, was with him at the last moment and administered the last sacrament of the Church of which he was so devoted a member. The interment took place at the family burial ground (Clonmacnoise) on Monday last. The dimensions and representative character of the funeral cortege gave ample testimony of the esteem and affection in which deceased was held during his long and blameless life.

Deceased Name: Cynthia Theresa Claffey
Cynthia was born January 12, 1942 at Port Arthur, Texas. She died May 2, 2002 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. At the time of her death she was a resident of Groves, Texas. She was a graduate of Bishop Byrne High School where she was a member of the colleens. She attended Port Arthur College and worked at Gibson's for many years before joining J.C. Penney's at Central Mall. Her friends at J.C. Penney's became her extended family and she talked of them often with great fondness. Her job was associate in the Catalog Department. There and at home she was noted for doing things in a relaxed time frame at a leisurely pace. Her mother, Cecile Gonsoulin Claffey, and her father, Hugh Claffey, preceded her in death as did a special niece Sara McKee. She is survived by her sister Hertha McKee, brother-in-law, Paul McKee as well as nephews, Darrell, Steve and Aubrey McKee, nieces Charlotte Reeves, Samantha Reeves, Jerri McKee, Brett McKee and Stacie McKee Gardner, and host of cousins, aunts and uncles. She loved to travel with her family and friends. She was fortunate to have been able to take vacations with her mother, and other family members. Two of her favorite trips were to Alaska with her friend and co worker Sylvia Baker and to the Renaissance Festival with friends from Penney's. One of her fondest memories from the Renaissance trip was riding an elephant. She became too ill to work in November 2001, and lived wit her sister and brother-in-law for several months where she was visited often by so many caring friends and relatives. One who came often was a special little boy, Austin Nunez. Her condition improved greatly during the last few months and she delighted in being able to see and talk with all who came by, called brought her food teats, and sent so many beautiful cards. Even when her health took its last downturn she still had a high spirit based on her faith. She asked that special thanks be sent to Father Don, Pastor at Immaculate Conception Church and to Barbara Ryan who brought her communion every Sunday. Cynthia was a kind and generous person but foremost she was a good Christian. What more could be asked of any of us. She shall be missed.
