I have an old letter written to Annie Nye Smith and wonder if she could have been part of this Ohio family. If anyone knows of her name, please let me know. She received a large inheritance from William Stillman Fish, of the city of Saginaw, MI., when he died. I have no idea who she was. The letter is a plea for her to give some of her money to my grandmother who was left out of the will or given very little. Now, by looking at the will I see her name was Annie Nye Smith of Littleton, MA.

I was wondering if anyone has access to a series of books called: The Fireland Pioneer. My library carries the index, but not the series. I would be very appreciative of a lookup of the following entries: Bartlett, Cynthia (Mrs. Pearson Burpee) 1937-212 Bartlett, Mrs. Benjamin (Eunice Hunt) 1937-211 In looking at the index it would appear that that the 1937 volume is Volume XXV. I am assuming the 211 & 212 are page numbers. I have been trying to verify (for about 8 months now) the names of Cynthia Bartlett's parents. (I had been given the names Benjamin Bartlett and Polly Pidge, but have been unable to locate such a couple). I would be extremely grateful if someone could tell me if there is some connection between Cynthia and Mrs. Benjamin Bartlett. Also, I have seen references to "Women in the Western Reserve" (I think that is the name of it). Could someone tell me if Cynthia Bartlett is listed in that?

Martha MACOMB 11 Sep 1879, Martha Ella md. Nathaniel Jefferson MACOMB 7 Sep 1879.) I have several mysteries about the Pheonix family. One is that Nathaniel Macomb's father supposedly disowned him for marrying a "black" woman-- she was very dark-complected, but Indian. Their children apparently all inherited her coloring. Infamous Family Knowledge insists the Pheonix family was Cherokee, but I have long disputed that. I believe they were Shawnee or Delaware--aren't those the 2 tribes who were prominent in northern OH? Or can someone verify a lost branch of the Cherokee in that area? And in going through paperwork received by a cousin who is a Pheonix descendant, I found out that there was a town named Phenix in Wood Co., and it was apparently absorbed by Weston. Is this true? I also find reason to think the Pheonix family was Catholic. Can anyone verify this for me? I would like to do some reading on Wood and Huron Co histories. Would someone recommend books that are accurate, especially regarding the Indians in those counties? I would appreciate any help at all regarding this. My grandmother has always believed she was Cherokee, and that her Uncle Mig would never tell her an untrue story. He was probably only passing down what he was told.

My great grandfather's obituary said he was from Berne. Is there a little town in Baden with Berne in its name, i.e., Berndorf, Bernbau, etc.?
