Does anyone have access to this book- A century plus of schools in Huron County, Ohio, 1816-2000, compiled by Nancy Zeiter, Huron County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society (2001)? If so, is there more information concerning William CHAPMAN as below (from Huron, Ohio web site) The first public school, it is said, was taught by Calvin COE, in the winter of 1810-11, and afterward by Miss Tamar RUGGLES (later Mrs. Jabez WRIGHT). It is said that Mr. COE was afterward ordained preacher of the gospel, and as such was the first who served in that capacity in Huron. About the year 1815, Mr. William CHAPMAN opened a school near his house, on lot twenty-five, section three, and continued for a few years. Mr. Winthrop H. WRIGHT remembers attending as a pupil.

Please check any records you have available and have the manpower to do the research on for Archibald DABBS in the 1820 to 1880 range. I know I am grasping at straws, but he lived there before he moved to Anson, NC, in the 1850's at the age of 24. He was married to an Elizabeth in the 1850s, and there was an Elizabeth BRAZELL living with them. There was also a family of BRAZELLs living next door, so I believe the families must be related in some way. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I believe that Archibald was my mother's grandfather, but her dad died when she was only 7 years old, and she doesn't remember much about him. Also, the only personal record left to compare the Census records for my grandfather, Thomas David DABBS, with Archibald’s son, Thomas DABBS, is a family bible that my cousin borrowed from my mom and never returned. I want to know my Grandfather and his family, whether the news be bad or good. I want to know who they were and what life was like for them then. My mom is now 84, and her dad died when she was only 7 years old. She is ill now, and I would like to let her know about the father she missed out on when she was growing up. She is the only living daughter of Thomas David DABBS, who was 13 in the 1850 Census.
