I am actively researching the Elam family in the U.S. and England. Thus far, my father and I have traced our roots back to James Elam and Alice Shirecliffe of Yorkshire England and Robert Elam, also from somewhere in Yorkshire, England, who immigrated to Virginia in 1638.
The Elam family reportedly owned several ships and made voyages between England and Virginia during this time period. Robert and his family lived near the Jamestown Colony in Henrico County, Virginia. My line of Elams lived in Henrico and Chesterfield County, Virginia, until sometime in the early 1800s when Jesse Elam moved to Warren County, Kentucky. Jesse subsequently moved to Dallas County, Texas, where he died in 1854. The rest of my line are all Texans.
My personal research goal is to locate
Robert and Ann's origins in England and to trace the family back from there.
In addition to my direct line, I also collect all Elams (and spelling variations
thereon) in the hope of being able to help others in their Elam family
research.
I maintain a database (see "surname" link below)
consisting of names that I have found, as well as information submitted
to me by fellow researchers. If you have any additional names, dates, etc.
that you would like to have added to the database or if you see anything
that needs correcting (with this many names I have a hard time catching
everything) PLEASE let me know. Also, if you have any suggestions on how
I can make these pages better or easier to use, drop me an e-mail.
