Know all men by these presents that I. Alexander Elam of the County of Mecklenburg for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving, but more Especially for the love and affection which I have & do bare toward my Brother Edward Elam of the County of Charlotte, hath given, and granted and by these presents doth give, grant and Confirm to him the said Edward Elam and to his heirs and assigns forever, all my Estate whereof I am now posses'd Consisting of the following Articles To wit, one Negroe Man cald and known by the name of Bob, also one Feather Bed & Furniture, one Brass kettle, one Iron pot rack, and Sundry ____, one Iron pot, one brass Skimmer, also Sundry other small & _____ Articles not necessary here to Innumerate, all which said Goods and Chattels as above describ'd I give & confirm to him the said Edward Elam and to his heirs & assigns for ever, and the same I do hereby Warrant and forever defend against the Claim and Demand of all and every person & persons Whatsoever. In Witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and Seal this 28th day of February 1789.

Be it known that whereas a marriage is about to be solemnized between the undersigned parties, namely Edward Elam and Lettuce Wallace both of the County of Charlotte and State of Virginia Now it is to be understood that the said Edward Elam being desireous so to secure to the same Lettuce Wallace for the benefit of such children as she now hath all such property as she is now possessed of To wit, a Grey mare, two head of cattle, two feather beds & furniture and all her household and kitchen furniture, all of which property the said Edward Elam for himself and all claiming under him do by these presents covenant and agree that he will relinquish all claim thereto which in Law is equity and further that the said Lettuce Wallace shall and may dispose of such property at any time or in any way either by Gift or otherwise whensoever she may think proper so to do. And the said Lettuce Wallace on her part do covenant & agree to ___ quit all claim either in Law or otherwise issued to any part of the Estate of the said Edward Elam of all and every description whatever. I, Edward Elam, of the County of Charlotte and the State of Virginia, being of sound mind and memory, do make and ordain this my Last Will and testament in manner and form following, To wit, I lend to my beloved wife Jane Elam, during her natural life, all my estate both real and personal. i Give and bequeath to my son Daniel Elam such property as I have heretofore put him in the possession of, also one dollar to be paid him after the death of my wife. I Give and bequeath to my son Edward Elam such property as I have heretofore put him in the possession of, also one dollar to be paid him after the death of my wife. I Give to my son John Elam such property as I heretofore put him in the possession of, also one dollar to be [paid] him after the death of my wife. I Give and bequeath to my Son Samuel Elam, after the death of my Wife, the Tract of Land whereon I now live and all such property that I have heretofore put in his possession. On account of the above sales I have payed according to the will to
Lewis Dunn for his wife Rebecca four hundred and two dollars Seventy three
cents and one hundred thirteen dollars Sixty six cents the amount of a
decree cost against the heirs of Elizabeth Edge and fifty dollars by consent
of families out of the interest of Seaton Duffer and Nancy his Wife, in
all amounting to $566.39. Paid to James Elam three hundred fifty-two dollars
Seventy three cents the ballance of the Interest of Seaton Duffer and Nancy
his wife. Paid to Samuel Elam four hundred and two dollars and Seventy
three cents the amount of Sarah Martin Interest and there then remained
in my hands two hundred Eighty nine dollars and Seven cents due the heirs
of Elizabeth Edge which accounts for the whole amount above of Sixteen
hundred and ten dollars ninety two cents and which has been paid over to
them.

The undersigned commissioner of the Court at the request of Wm. T.
Chaffin agent for Edney Gregory's heirs was examined and settled
the forgoing account and ---- it supported by proper
vouchers showing a balance due the heirs of Edney Gregory on the 8
day of Jany 1869 of --- U.S. Currency and a balance due in Confederate
Currency to Wm. T. Chaffin agent of 1539.74 as above stated. Your
commissioner has not scaled the balance in Confederate Currency for the
reason that WM. T. Chaffin as admr of Lucinda Elam dec'd owes the
estate a large balance of Confed currency to said Estate which when distributed
can be applied as a credit to the balance due him.
