Exchanges Submitted for February thru March 1999
My father was Virgil Lee MILLER, born in Wolfe Co., KY 06/23/1903, son
of Alfred Miller and Saphronia ALLEN Miller, daughter of Caleb Allen and
RHODA Elam. If Marilyn Allen-Wible reads this, please call me at the phone
number listed in my profile. I am the 2nd cousin of your father, Harry
Allen. I grew up next door to your grandfather, Freeland Allen, during
the years he was marrier to Nora (ADAMS) Allen. Gordan, although away at
School for the Deaf, was like a brother to me as a child. I remember you
as a toddler. My sister is Rhodonna. Hope to hear from you and Harry.
I am new to this and was idly searching the web for my family names and
came across this Elam page. I live in the UK and as far as I know my family
are essentially English. My grandfather was ERIC Elam and was born around
1905 in South Lincolnshire, UK. I am interested in the name because it
is unusual and is not listed in any dictionary that I know of (not this
spelling anyway). I would be pleased to hear from anyone about the name
as it seem there any many Elams in America. It would be interesting to
find out where the name actually descends from. Now I have found this page
I will be reading it often!

This item posted by Vickie Elam White on Sunday,
February 21, 1999 includes these names: ARNETTE,
CARRELL, COLEMAN,
COLVIN, DAVIS,
ELIZABETH, FRANCES,
GEORGE, MARTHA,
MARTIN, MARY,
NANCY, PATIENCE,
PHILLIPS, RICHARD,
RODEN, SARAH,
SUSANNA, THOMAS
I'm descended from MARTIN Elam and Mary PHILLIPS, who were married in Lunenburg
Co. VA on 9 Jun 1775. Does anyone have any proof of Martin's ancestry?
Martin Elam was living in Chester Co. SC by November 1790, when he sold
slaves to Anderson THOMAS. However, he isn't listed on the 1790 SC federal
census. These slaves were the same ones his father-in-law George PHILLIPS
had left Mary in his will. In December 1793, a Martin and GEORGE Elam,
whom I suspect was his brother, were witnesses for a Chester Co. SC deed
of conveyance between Thomas RODEN and Dennis CARRELL. Martin died in Chester
Co. SC in 1826. Mary survived him and died in 1829.
I suspect that he was the son of RICHARD and Sarah Elam of Chesterfield
Co. Va, but I lack proof. Richard and Sarah Elam did have sons named George
and Martin, so there is a good possibility that I'm on to something here.
Is anyone else searching this line?
Martin and Mary (PHILLIPS) Elam had the following children: 1. SUSANNA
Dyer m Nicholas COLVIN; 2. GEORGE Phillips b 1779, settled in DeKalb Co.
GA (my ancestor); 3. RICHARD; 4. SARAH m Caleb DAVIS; 5. ELIZABETH Phillips
m Solomon COLEMAN; 6. MARY; 7. MARTHA; 8. PATIENCE; 9. NANCY m Wiley COLEMAN;
and 10. FRANCES m John Quirns ARNETTE
Hi! I'm researching FRANCINA Elam and her husband, Henry EASTERLING. They
were married on August 13, 1820, in Floyd Co., KY. Their daughter, Susannah
Easterling, married James Harvey LACY. Any help given would be greatly
appreciated because I have very little to go on. Thanks!
Searching parents and siblings of T. A. Elam, born 3-12-1895 in Roscoe
TX. He married GLADYS Elam, 6-1-1916, in Seminole TX. Five children, one
girl, 4 boys.
My Grandfather's name was T.A. Elam; his father's name was BERRY Elam.
My fathers name was DELNO Dean Elam; he died in 1995.
Thanks to The Elam Page, I have been able to find my great grandmother's
parents and as an extra bonus I also got her grandfather. With a little
help from the Georgia Archives Dept., I confirmed the data and have officially
gone back two more generations. On a forthcoming trip to Richmond, VA I
hope to get wills, land records, burial places etc. Am now seeking help
on ALBERT P. Elam b. circa 1825, married Marta J. TERNAN who died - then
Mary E. FOESEE. If anyone in the system has parents of Albert P. Elam of
Powhatan County, VA, would really appreciate it.

Request information on WILLIS M. Elam (1812 VA) and Mary CALESTER (WALLACE)
Elam (1814 VA). Brothers and sisters of Willis M. are listed at my web
site.
Searching WILLIS_M. Elam * Sarah Oliver Elam SEAY * Mary CALLISTER WALLACE
Elam * DAVID Madison ELEAM * Amanda Rosetta MOORE Eleam. Searching especially
for the parents of Willis M. (VA 1812) & Sarah Oliver Elam (1806 SC).
Also, does anyone know what county in VA they lived in? Thanks.
Does anyone have information on either PETER Elam b. late 1700's; or BEVERLY
(a male) Elam of Powhatan County VA?? I have found Beverly in the 1840
census, but it gives little information on children. No names, etc. I am
looking for parents of ALBERT P. Elam and am wondering if Peter Elam may
be father to Albert "P" ??
My father JAMES Herman Elam was born in Pontotoc county Ada, Oklahoma In
Chicashaw township. He died in the mid 50's at age 39. His grandfather
was probably named William and raised the grandchildren Harold, Curtis
and Bill (Elam-Butler) along with female children (names unknown). His
Mother was native American (full blood Chicashaw). I know nothing about
his father. There was a town named Elam somewere in that area (near Broken
Arrow, Ok). In my childhood there we visited some relatives who lived around
Red Oak, Ok. but don't remember there names. CURTIS Elam was a county superintendent
of schools for many years somewhere in W. Virginia. Bill was a policeman
in Oklahoma. Trying to find additional information would appreciate any
help.
