The Chalmers name has spread from its origin in Scotland to all parts of the world, mainly to other parts of the English speaking world, but we seem to be an adventurous family, so there are numerous examples of the name turning up all over the world. There's a Chalmers who started a University in Gothenburg, Sweden, another who was eaten by cannibals in New Guinea, and another who became Mayor of Warsaw, Poland. We also seem versatile when it comes to earning a living - ministers, missionaries, military, university professors, journalism, silversmithing, international traders, car-manufacturers, authors, clothing manufacturers, watch-makers, artists, inventors (a James Chalmers invented the postage stamp), tobacco merchants, and all manner of trades - the list is extensive.
