| In 8th grade we will continue with our study
through the Old and New Testament using Calvary Chapel's Online
Sunday School Curriculum. Several devotional books will
be read throughout the year, including: More than a Carpenter
by Josh McDowell, The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel,
and Desiring God by John Piper.
Daily Bible reading and prayer will continue
as well as memory and copy work and recitation (Psalm 139;
I Cor. 13; Romans 6).

We will continue reading through Ms. Marshall's,
History of English Literature for Boys and Girls as
well as Simond's American Literature this year.
Novels include: Charles Kingsley's Westward Ho!,
The Holy War by John Bunyon, and Everyman.
Poetry includes a study of Shakespeare's Sonnets and Spenser's
Faerie Queene. Works by poets John Donne and
John Milton are also included.
Grammar and Writing instruction will include
weekly essays, beginning of Jensen's Format Writing
(paragraphs only), and weekly review of basic grammar (parts
of speech).
As always oral narration, recitation and dictation will
continue to play a part.

The bulk of our reading for this year will
be in History. Our weekly spine will be
The New World (Vol. 2) by Sir Winston Churchill.
Biographies for this year include: Voyage of the
Armada by Sir David Howarth, History of Plymouth Plantation
by William Bradford, Life of Sir Thomas More by William
Roper, a short bio on The Life of Francis Bacon and
The Life of John Donne, and The History of King
Charles I by Jacob Abbott.
Geography will consist of three books:
The Life of Christopher Columbus by Edward Everett
Hale, The Discovery of Muscovey by Richard Halukyt,
and The Discovery of Guiana by Sir Walter Raleigh.

This year for science we will be studying Physical
Science using the BJUPs Basic Science for Christian Schools.
Nature Study includes: Rural Hours by Susan
Fennimore Cooper and William Harvey's Discovery of Blood
by Thomas Huxley.

This will be our second year studying French
using Rosetta Stone (level II).
We will begin Rosetta Stone's Latin I, Spanish
I and German I as well.
