A. P. Boyd (Austin Pollard Boyd) is well and favorably known in this part of the State as the able senior editor of the Paris Daily Newsand North Texan. He is a native of Aberdeen, Mississippi, where he was born July 2, 1843, and is the son of John Boyd, a native of North Carolina, and by occupation a contractor and builder, who died in Aberdeen, Mississippi , in 1862. The mother of A. P. Boyd, before marriage, was Miss Ellen Sullivan, and she died in Aberdeen, Mississippi, in 1861. At the age of fourteen years our subject commenced the printing business, in which he continued until the war broke out, when he enlisted in the Confederate army, in Company I, Fourteenth Mississippi, serving with General Boliver Buckner until February 16, 1862, at which time Fort Donelson, Tennessee, was taken and Mr. Boyd was made a prisoner and carried to Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois. He was a prisoner eight months and was then exchanged; he at once joined his command and was in active service in the Army of the Tennessee until the close of the war. At the close of hostilities he established a paper at his home in Aberdeen, Mississippi, where he continued about eighteen months. He then removed to West Point, Mississippi, where he again established a paper and remained until 1869. Thence he removed to Paris, Texas, and established the North Texan, which he operated until 1886, since which time it has been known as the Paris Daily News and North Texan. Mr. Boyd is a practical printer and devotes his time to his paper, which has a wide daily and weekly circulation. He is an enthusiastic Mason, having taken all the degrees in the ancient York Rite up to and including the Knights Templar. He has also been master of Paris Lodge No. 27 several terms and is at present high priest of La Fayette Chapter, No. 48, and a member of the Paris Commandery, No.9. He is also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. June 19, 1866, he married Miss Mollie Boyle, of LaGrange, Georgia, the daughter of William Boyle. They have six children living, as follows: Eva, Arthur, Hugh, Claire, Sayers and Mary. Source: Biographical Souvenir Of The State Of Texas, F.A.
