Boyd, Abraham  57b   4-2-1-0-0    Wilmington, Windham County

Abraham Boyd, ancestry unknown*  was last seen in Windham County Records after 1888 Feb 12
[Wilmington LR, 6:154].  Abraham recorded a marriage intention 1766 Jan 29 Hopkinton MA and
on 1766 Feb 08, "the above Proposel forbidden by sd Boyd before published" [VR]. Abraham again
published his intention 1766 May 17 Hopkinton, MA [VR] and, as of Hopkinton MA, published his
marriage intention 1766 Jun 24 Upton MA [VR] all to Hannah Hill, daughter of Ralph and Sarah Hill.
Hannah was born 1742 Jul 12 Upton MA [VR].  Hannah was last mentioned in records on 1818 Feb
19, when Robert Boyd added a statement to a land deed granted from his father, "......& satisfactorily
provide for my father and mother during their lives and see them decently buried...." [Wilmington LR,
6:113].  No probate records were located for either Abraham or Hannah.

Abraham served from Upton MA as a private in Capt. Stephen Sadler's Co., Col Wheelocks Regt.
which marched 1775 Apr 20 to Roxbury MA in response to the alarm of Apr 19 and received wages
for service in Capt. Henry Leland's Co., Col. Willis Regt., dated Hopkinton 1776 Feb 05 [MSSR,
2:358].  Abraham was mentioned in Dr. John Long's diary as traveling up and down the Deerfield  river
from Shelburne MA to Wilmington in the 1770's and settled alongside the Deerfield River in Wilmington
[Shelburne MA Library].  "Abraham Boyd was a soldier of the Revolution and came to Wilmington
as one of the earliest settlers just before the outbreak of the war.  He came in with two companions from
Hopkinton, MA [via Shelburne, MA] by the guide of marked trees.  He cleared a small patch of land
from the dense forest and built a crude log hut.  His sons were [Abraham Jr,] Robert, Levi, Stephen,
and [Luther].  Robert married Susannah Wheeler and settled in the south part of town. He started in life
with  "ane axe and one lousy calf" but reared a family of seven children and acquired a handsome fortune."
