What of Chief Tecumseh?by Elizabeth Ellen WilsonThe descendants of George Kuhn and Sarah Johnson have a have heard stories that they are descended from the Shawnee Chief Tecumseh. The stories are not genealogically specific, but they have formed the basis of a family history. Their granddaughter, the late Linnie Pauline Kuhn Clark kept a bust statue of Tecumseh in her living room to honor her ancestor.1 Another granddaughter, the late Myrtle Kuhn Larmore, wrote that Tecumseh was suppose to have had a daughter named Narcissus who married a man named Johnson.2 Margaret Ellen Wilson, daughter of Carol Van Duyn Wilson, great-granddaughter of George Kuhn and Sarah Johnson, and mother of this author, was told as she was growing up that Tecumseh was her seventh great-grandfather.3 Sorting out fact from family history is the task of the genealogist - one committed to accurate, fact-documented research. |
