Last Will and Testament of John Coon deceased
(From Will Record "A" page 108, 109 & 110)
1838 - date of will

State of Indiana, Henry County, ss:

I, John Coon, of the County of Henry and State of Indiana do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament.
First - I direct that my body be decently interred and that my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my estate as it has pleased God to intrust [sic] me with, I dispose of in the following manner to wit: - I direct first that all my just debts be paid as soon after my decease as possible, out of the first monies that may come into the hands of my Executors. I also direct that all my personal property be left with my dear Wife, including my Household furniture; and I also direct that my stock of all and every description be left with her if she shall survive me, and to effectuate this, my desire and intention, I hereby give and bequeath unto my son George Coon, the following tract of land to-wit: The South half of the North East quarter of section no. 7. Township no 17. north of range no. 9. East, containing eighty acres. I also give and bequeath unto my two daughters Delila Grey and Elizabeth Coon, the North half of said quarter section of said land to be divided share and share alike. And I hereby direct no more of my personal property be given unto Conrod, Solomon, Josiah or George, or either of my daughters, only at the pleasure of my Wife, except my daughter Nancy, the following tract of land, to-wit: Forty acres off the South End of the East half of the South East quarter of Section 15 in Township No. 17, Range 8 East, lying and being in the County of Hancock, and State of Indiana. I also direct that if my Wife should remain in possession of the following tract of land, so long as she shall remain my Widow in lieu of her dower, to wit: - it being the North West half of the North East quarter of Section Number (11) Eleven, in Township no. 17. North of Range No. 8. lying and being in the County of Hancock and State of Indiana.
And I hereby make and ordain my esteemed friends, James Atkinson and William Clark, executors of this my Last Will and Testament.
In Witness whereof, I, John Coon, the Testator, have hereunto set my hand and seal this Sixteenth day of September in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Eight.

Signed, sealed, published and declared as his Last Will and Testament, in the presence of us who have hereunto set our names as witnesses in the presence of the Testator and in the Presence of each other

Henry County       } SS: Be it remembered that on this 29th day of October A.D. 1838, personally came before me Eli Murphy, Clerk of the Henry Probate Court, David Hiatt and Isaac Vandyne, and being by me duly affirmed depose and say that they saw John Coon, sign, seal, publish and declare the foregoing to be his Last Will and Testament, that they believe he was of sound mind and memory at the date that he made, the same, and that they signed their names thereto as witnesses in his presence and at his request and in the presence of each other.
