The stone was facing "sideways" from the direction all of the other stones were facing. It had probably been turned at some time. It is very hard to read, and another visit to the cemetery in better light, with a mirror, is warranted. R. Thomas Mayhill, in his book Early Cemetery Records of Wayne Township, Henry County, Indiana - Including the towns of Knightstown, the Villages of Raysville, Grant City, and Maple Valley, and the Former Villages of Elizabeth City and West Liberty, (1968; reprint Knightstown, Indiana: The Bookmark, 1994), gives the birthdate as Dec. 13, 1809 and death date as Aug. 2, 1888. |
