John definitely died in 1843. When his Father Jacob wrote his Will in 1845, John was deceased. John's last child was Emily, who was born Sep of 1843. Somtime after the conception of Emily in Jan of 1843 & before the end of the year, John Hollinshead died. Cause of death unknown. It had to be an illness or an accident.
The Hollinshead Family is from Hollins in the Township of Sutton, Chester,
England. They arrived in the Colony of New Jersey at the Town of Salem in
1677. I am still trying to identify the Immigrant Ancestor. UPDATE: The
Immigrant Ancestor was JOHN HOLLINSHEAD from London. (P.V. Thorne).

years, I have volunteered at a local historic home, the Heintzman House.
The Heintzman House was orginally a 1798 Crown Grant awarded to Anthony

7. unknown article title, Newspaper article
(Fulton/Morrison, 4 Sep 1968) regarding the Hollinshead Family in Ustick
Township., unknown location, 4 Sep 1968, When John Hollinshead, patriarch
of the family, was in Canada, he participated in the McKenzie Rebellion,
also called the Patriot's War. It was told he had charge of a considerable
amount of armament and ammunition and frustrated the efforts of the British
to capture it.
It is an interesting but seldom recalled fact that a small colony of settlers in Clyde Township were participants of the rebellion in Canada. Soon after the failure of their cause, they came to the township within a short period of time --- all in 1839.
They included John Hollinshead, John Wilson, Donald Blue, Samuel Currie, Richard Beswick, Zachariah Dent, and William Wilson. The last named was captured by the British and served a term in jail.
The so-called Patriot's War or McKenzie Rebellion was of brief duration.
William Lyons McKenzie, a journalist, led the struggle for liberalization
in government. His followers fought against the so-called Family Compact.
They allegedly numbered 800-900. On Nov. 25, 1837, he proclaimed a
provisional government for Upper Canada. After defeat, he fled to Navy
Island in the Niagara River. It was United States property and he made
forays from there. He was eventually captured by the United States
government and put in prison for 11 months for violating neutrality
laws.

Sep 1968, excerpt: The family included eight children and two of them,
Joshua and Daniel, acquired land including the homestead. They lived most
of their lives in Ustick.
They were absent in early days on hunting-and-trapping trips. In 1858, they made such a journey to Iowa and kept a diary of their experiences. The beginning was inauspicious:
'We hitched up our horse and started and got as far as the corner of the house and it looked like rain; so we unhitched and put the horse back in the stable. It rained most of the day.'
They started again the next day. A week later they returned the horse and bought a skiff. Eventually they went up the west branch of the Des Moines River and squatted in a cabin for the winter. They were 36 miles from Fort Dodge.
The brothers trapped otters, foxes, raccoons, minks, and wolves. Food became scarce (line lost here) breakfast. It was not bad but tasted 'coony.' Their Christmas dinner was beaver tail and adjudged it 'better than pork.'
In January, they shot a deer, caught a big owl which they kept for a pet, filed two land claims and built foundations for homes thereon, sold a couple of wolf pelts and lived on beaver tails.
There was a blizzard on April 2, 1859, and on April 7, they started down the river. They portaged to the Skunk River and returned to the Mississippi River. They carried otter pups in the boat for pets.
After a winter on the plains, Joshua commented philosophically on foxes and
wolves, comparing them to people. 'The fox is an eastern animal and there
is about the same difference in them that is in the eastern folks and the
western.' - Bastian Newspaper Article, 1968.
