Motherunknown , a concubine4
Torf-Einarr Rögnvaldsson, Orknøyjarl was called Torfeinar, because he cut peat for fuel, there being no firewood, as in Orkney there are no woods.4 Earl of Orkney.4 He went up to Halfdan, and cut a spread eagle upon his back, by striking his sword through his back into his belly, dividing his ribs from the backbone down to his loins, and tearing out his lungs; and so Halfdan was killed.4 He was sent to the Orkney's by his father, following his brother Hallad who had resigned, with a vessel completely equipped, and he sailed with it into the West sea in harvest. When he came to the Orkney Isles, two vikings, Thorer Treskeg and Kalf Skurfa, were in his way with two vessels. He attacked them instantly, gained the battle, and slew the two vikings. Then this was sung: --

"Then gave he Treskeg to the trolls,
Torfeinar slew Skurfa."
.4 Also called Jarl Einar of Orkney. He afterwards was earl over the islands, and was a mighty man. He was ugly, and blind of an eye, yet very sharp-sighted withal.4 He was a witness where King of Ringerike Hálfdan Haleg Haraldsson came very unexpectedly to Orkney, and Earl Einar immediately fled; but came back soon after about harvest time, unnoticed by Halfdan.4 Torf-Einarr Rögnvaldsson, Orknøyjarl was born circa 870. He was the son of Rögnvaldr Eysteinsson, Mørejarl and unknown , a concubine.4 Torf-Einarr Rögnvaldsson, Orknøyjarl was initially driven from Orkney by Halfdan Haleg, son of Harald Fairhair, his father's friend, but he returned soon after, about harvest time, unoticed by Halfdan, whom he captured.

Earl Einar sang the following song the evening before he went
into this battle: --

"Where is the spear of Hrollaug? where
Is stout Rolf Ganger's bloody spear!
I see them not; yet never fear,
For Einar will not vengeance spare
Against his father's murderers, though
Hrollaug and Rolf are somewhat slow,
And silent Thorer sits add dreams
At home, beside the mead-bowl's streams."
After 894. He witnessed the death of King of Ringerike Hálfdan Haleg Haraldsson after 900; Halfdan Haleg captured in Orkney by Einar, son of Ragnvald of More, whom Halfdan and his brothers had killed. Thereafter Earl Einar went up to Halfdan, and cut a spread eagle upon his back, by striking his sword through his back into his belly, dividing his ribs from the backbone down to his loins, and tearing out his lungs; and so Halfdan was killed.

Einar then sang: --

"For Ragnvald's death my sword is red:
Of vengeance it cannot be said
That Einar's share is left unsped.
So now, brave boys, let's raise a mound, --
Heap stones and gravel on the ground
O'er Halfdan's corpse: this is the way
We Norsemen our scat duties pay."4
Torf-Einarr Rögnvaldsson, Orknøyjarl died circa 920.5

He was the son of N.N. mac Ímair. Annals of Ulster 914: "A naval battle at Manu between Barid son of Oitir and Ragnall grandson of Ímar, in which Barid and almost all his army were destroyed. / Bellum nauale oc Manainn eter Bárid m. n-Oitir & Ragnall h. ( (an unknown value)).3 Rí Dubgall & Finngall Ragnald ua Ímair came with a fleet to Waterford in 917 at Ireland.1 Annals of Ulster 917: "Sitriuc, grandson of Ímar, landed with his fleet at Cenn Fuait on the coast of Laigin. The men of Scotland, moreover, moved against them and they met on the bank of the Tyne in northern Saxonland. The heathens formed themselves into four battalions: a battalion with Gothfrith grandson of Ímar, a battalion with the two jarls, and a battalion with the young lords. There was also a battalion in ambush with Ragnall, which the men of Scotland did not see. The Scotsmen routed the three battalions which they saw, and made a very great slaughter of the heathens, including Oitir and Gragabai. Ragnall, however, then attacked in the rear of the Scotsmen, and made a slaughter of them, although none of their kings or earls was cut off.
