3. John3 Stewart Sr. (James2Carmichael-Stewart, William1Carmichael) was born on 14 May 1825 in Percy, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada; Another date noted was 14 Aug 1825. He married Jane Graham say 1849. He died on 13 Dec 1899 in Rockland Ranch, Daisy, Stevens County, WA, at age 74. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Gifford, Stevens County, WA.1

 His wife, Jane Graham, of Eniskillin, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.

A Wanderer: He left his wife, Jane Graham, in Michigan in the 1880's and came to the Puget Sound area (of Washington State) to follow the logging. In 1897, finally having his fill of the lumberman's life, he rode his pony some 350 miles to Rockland Ranch in Daisy, Washington. This was were his son William Andrew had come to homestead with his family. He stayed thereafter with the family. Two years later he was to die of pneumonia -. He relocated between 1880 and 1885 and came to reside in Puget Sound, King, Washington. He was one of the lumbermen, who with axes and saws, fabricated a four by four by 100 foot long timber as a sample of Puget Sound lumber in 1893 in Chicago's World Fair. He was a logger, moving camp to camp. Even in his 70's he could still wear his sons out. (He told Ralph Leon once, this being in his 70's, "Son, if you are going to ride the saw, at least don't drag your feet!") before 1897.
