For computer genealogists!
Capital PAF Users’ Group
P O Box 427, Kensington, MD 20895-0427
OBJECTIVE OF CPAFUG: The Capital PAF Users’ Group is dedicated to helping its members with their genealogical problems and enhancing their abilities to learn and use computer and Internet technology in genealogy. Emphasis is given to the computer program, Personal Ancestral File, PAF, but other genealogy software and technology is also involved.
HOW IT WORKS: People with common interests meet monthly for instruction and to share ideas and information. Classes and question and answer (Q & A) sessions are conducted at the meetings for beginners and for intermediate/advanced users of computers and the Internet. The PAF program is a focus, but since many members use other programs, expertise on these programs is also available. Mentors are available to help in one-on-one situations. Programs of the main meeting may include presentations, instruction and discussion on topics such as: Internet web sites including the FamilySearch® web site of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, GEDCOM files and their use, Word processors and macro commands for them, photograph and document scanning, E-mail management, Genealogical document publishing, plus many and varied genealogical subjects. A members-only E-mail list provides for a continuous flow of communication, problems, and solutions for the Group in their genealogy efforts.
MEETINGS: Third Saturday January through November and second Saturday in December at the Washington DC Stake Family History Center, 10000 Stoneybrook Dr, Kensington, MD. Q & A sessions begin at 1:00 pm and the business meeting and main program begin at 2:00 pm. Directions: Exit #33 from I-495: north on Connecticut Ave to Beach Dr (2nd light); right through stop sign to "T" intersection with Stoneybrook Dr then left up the hill to the next building after the Mormon Temple and Vistors’ Center.
MEMBERSHIP: It is open to anyone with an interest in PAF or other genealogical computing programs or genealogy. Members are the leaders of the Group and are encouraged to pitch in and help. Annual dues are $12 payable to CPAFUG upon joining and there after each March. Rank beginners are very welcome!
